2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

Taurus is a new soap to me. It was recommended by Greg at The Shave Authority who has been a great resource for all things related to Japanese straight razor shaving and maintenance.

The scent on this soap is “musk, whiskey and wood”. What’s not to love? It is subtle and blended beautifully. Here is what Faena say about the soap itself:

The addition of water buffalo milk from Northern Greece gently melds with the renowned Greek goat yoghurt to become the central piece of this new formula. They combine to improve the cleansing and nourishment factors. The addition of organic shea butter and peach kernel oil enhance the conditioning properties and the gliding of the new formula. Aloe vera and home crafted St. John’s wort oil tame the end-result to eliminate skin irritation.

And an interesting aspect of the soap is how they tell you to use it:

This formula requires minimum water on the shaving brush. Rinse the brush well and load the soap for 15-20 seconds. Face lather and add drops of water if needed.

This process melds well with how I face lather: load with damp brush - develop pasty lather on face - dip brush tips in water and build hydrated lather on face and in brush simultaneously. The lather, itself, is soft, velvety smooth (probably the yog[h]urt) and slick. Face feel is great IMHO.

Taurus is a complete winner for me.

I received the CV Heljestrand MK No 10 back from u/VisceralWatch last night. Since I’ve been refreshing razors lately I, naturally, decided to do this one.

About all I can say about the shave is “Wow!”. The edge feel was so soft you wouldn’t think there was an edge, and the closeness of the shave was exceptional.

After more than 2 months of just straight razor shaving I’m moving to DEs for the weekend to try a My-Blades blade. After today’s shave, this will be a very difficult transition for me.

    Enjoy your weekend!
