I’ve been hoping all year that this plant was going to be a huge, beautiful butterfly weed bunch, but after seeing actual butterfly weed on a field trip for my field botany class, this doesn’t appear to be butterfly weed after all.
Any ideas what it is?
Where are you located, generally?
East Tennessee
Maybe goldenrod?
The branching stems at every node make me think it isn’t Goldenrod, but who knows
Maybe this?
It’s suggested by Google lens
Did you buy it as seeds or a plant, or did it come up on its own? You are right, this don’t appear to be an Asclepias species, which typically have single leaves that come directly off the stem.
I think I got it as a little sprout from a native plant rescue staffed by volunteers, so IDing it was probably questionable
I wonder if it’s a Gaillardia species or something related to an oxeye daisy - the leaf clasping a “branch” as it shoots off the stem reminds me of them
I just question the aster ID because it doesn’t seem to have the clasping leaves that asters do
I got a couple nickels in my pockets young man
Sorry what?
