    The Market includes companies like Blackstone, who scoop up houses at auction, lightly flip them and then put them back on the market as high-priced rentals.

      Don’t forget the part where if it requires too much work in the short term, they slap a coat of paint on it and sell it again.

    I mean, it is the market. The market collectively agreed that buying stuff and raising rent is better than building stuff and cutting margins in favor of volume. That and they made sure to buy as much land as possible, so no one else can either.
