IMO, defederating from the Meta Fediverse project is ultimately going to be a good decision. Making your instance’s users interact predominantly with users of the Meta project would make it highly vulnerable to Meta fucking around as it was with the XMPP protocol and Google Talk situation

Fediverse is an alternative to big social media, but ActivityPub is also an open protocol that can’t stop said big platforms join it (or their parent companies make products able to operate using it). That’s why existing players on the Fedi scene should meet Meta on their own terms — if they want to fuck around (and they will), they shouldn’t hurt everyone else by doing so
