    • Brush: Stirling Soap Co. 24mm Synthetic
    • Blade: Personna Twin Pivot Plus (Atra) Cart (9)
    • Lather: House of Mammoth - Mood Indigo - Soap
    • Post Shave: Old Spice - Original - Aftershave

I was hoping the comfort coating on this cartridge would have worn away by now, but there’s still a little left.

The scent of Mood Indigo has improved significantly since the announcement that it’s being discontinued 🤣.

    • Razor: Wolfman Razors WR4/WRH3
    • Blade: Feather Artist Club Professional (6)
    • Lather: Zingari Man - The Master - Soap
    • Post Shave: Zingari Man - The Master - Aftershave
    • Post Shave: Thayers - Coconut - Toner

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

As you can see from the cover art, this soap is marketed as a dark spicy barbershop scent.

There once was an old man with a beard,
Who put lather to his face and smeared,
Shaving in more than one direction,
And using a mirror for reflection,
    His beard soon disappeared.

Shave and a Haircut - Two Bits: Day 8 of Lather Games

    • Brush: Simpson Chubby 2 Manchurian $OldWorld
    • Razor: Occam’s Razors – the SEnoch $ArtistClub
    • Blade: Feather Professional
    • Lather: Barrister and Mann – Seville
    • Post Shave: Noble Otter – Barrbarr
    • Fragrance: Spearhead Shaving Company – Seaforth! Fleur de France

    Theme justification:

In Seville’s old shop, a scent so fine,
    Farina’s the muse, almost divine.
I own the fragrance, yet here I sit,
For today, I forgot it’d fit.

Barrbarr’s like a classic American shop,
    lemon, rosemary and basil pop.
Fleur de France, oh so grand,
    Dennis’ French twist, finely planned.

    God’s Barbershop nods to cologne,
Like Farina’s, a classic well known.
    I had it—what luck!
    But today I just… stuck
To my shelf, and now I bemoan.

Barrbarr brings scents bold and clean,
Like the barbershops once often seen.
    While Fleur’s French affair
    Fills the room with flair—
    Dennis’ tribute to shaving’s routine.

June 8th, 2025: Shave and a Haircut - Two Bits

    • Brush: Omega - 10077 Boar $OLDWORLD
    • Razor: Gillette - Tech $RUSTYBUTTRUSTY $MACHINEAGE
    • Blade: Gillette Silver Blue
    • Lather: Moon Soaps - Union - Soap
    • Post Shave: Catie’s Bubbles - Tonsorial Parlour - Aftershave
    • Fragrance: Noble Otter - Barrbarr - EdP

Hardware Scavenger Hunt: Omega boar brushes are made in Italy. For $RUSTYBUTTRUSTY and $MACHINEAGE, I bring forth this old Gillette Tech. I will be going by the date printed on the box that I purchased it in. While it not the most visually stunning patina, it is certainly there. This cloudiness is present on the baseplate as well as the neck of the handle.

Daily Theme Justification: “Union Shaving Soap is a sharp, cooling, and pungent take on a classic American-style barbershop fragrance. It’s a step back into the 1950s when the hard work of a craftsman was not only common but appreciated.” -Moon soaps Union ad copy

Daily Theme: Barbershop day… I love this day because I love barbershop scents, but a recurring theme asked by many people is “What is a barbershop fragrance supposed to smell like?” because none of them smell alike. To quote the great resident barbershop fiend and honemeister u/whosgotthepudding, barbershop scents are “an ill defined and faux genre.” If none of this clarifies barbershop scents and fragrances for you still, it is not supposed to. Nobody knows what the fuck a barbershop scent is. However, there is a vague pattern of barbershop scent profiles including citrus top notes, some herbal middles notes, and oakmoss and/or patchouli as base notes, maybe some powdery talc and sweet notes if the artisan is feeling saucy. Yet, some barbershop scents omit or add to this generic profile and can still be marketed as a barbershop. For example, Chiseled Face Ghost Town Barber is a barbershop scent which follows the generic profile, but adds leather, smoke, and gunpowder. Sounds like a barbershop that Blondie would smoke Tuco in after getting a nice straight razor shave. All of this to say, barbershops are probably my favorite scents because they are clean, fresh, and usable everyday. I have tried many of them and in using Union for the first time today, it may be my new favorite. Union, Tonsorial Parlour, and Barrbarr are all very different conceptions of a barbershop. Tonsorial Parlour is made using strictly essential oils and has a very fruity and bright profile, while Barrbarr is a darker, sweeter, and herbal iteration. Union bridges that gap (minus the sweetness) and made for a whole and transitioning experience of the “barbershop” profile.

Daily Challenge: Limerick day, tsk tsk. I would not consider myself a creative person, but here goes.

Barbershop, what is the scent you are?

To find this out, I mustn’t go far

Into the shop I will walk

The barber here I am to talk

“Fresh and Clean!” Now that’s on par!

June 8th, 2025: Shave and a Haircut - Two Bits

    • Brush: Omega - 10048 28mm Boar $HOLLOW $OLDWORLD $TOLL
    • Razor: Gillette - Rocket HD
    • Blade: Wizamet Super Iridium (3)
    • Lather: Chicago Grooming Co. - No. 11 - Soap
    • Post Shave: Pinaud - Clubman - Aftershave
    • Post Shave: Ginger’s Garden - Unscented (+menthol) - Balm
    • Fragrance: Chiseled Face - Ghost Town Barber - EdP

    $discord

Theme justification: All the smells are barbershop scents, and the Omega Pro 48 is without question a barbershop brush omnipresent in Italian and other barbershops. You’ll also find Pinaud Clubman in most American barbershops.

    Daily challenge:
At week’s end with barbershop flair,
Clubman and Ghost Town filled the air,
    With powder and smoke,
    This western shave’s no joke,
    A scented journey beyond compare.

$FOF - We start with the smooth-yet-spicy Lavender, Rosemary, and, Musk in CGC No. 11. This leads seamlessly into the powdery, minty Clubman splash. Ghost Town Barber EdP elevates the entire progression with a western twist. Gunpowder, leather, and a hint of smoke. A lovely combination of scents to wind down with at the end of the weekend.

$SELFCARE - This evening my wife and I prepped some healthy dinners for the first half of the week. If we don’t have something healthy prepped ahead of time, it’s much more likely that we’ll eat something easy and less nutritious for dinner.
