Dupelgänger: Day 9 of Lather Games

    • Brush: Αλφα T400 tribute brush $DOORKNOB $RESURRECTIONBRUSH
    • Razor: Рубин $ADJUSTABLE $STAINLESSLESS
    • Blade: Ленинград
    • Lather: Chicago Grooming Co. - AG 1889
    • Post Shave: Saponificio Varesino – Desert Vetiver
    • Fragrance: Stirling Soap Co. – Island Man

Theme justification: Lots of dupes. The brush dupes the Rubberset 400, the razor is a dupe of the Gillette Super Adjustable (“Black Beauty”), the lather of Guerlain Jicky, the post of Terre d’Hermès Eau Intense Vétiver, and the frag of Creed Virgin Island Water.

    Have a meme!

    June 9th, 2025: Dupelgänger

    • Brush: AP Shave Co. - Heritage Collection Ever-Ready 200 w/ Proraso Pro Omega Boar
    • Razor: Manscaped - Plow 2.0
    • Blade: Gillette Silver Blue
    • Lather: Declaration Grooming - Massacre of the Innocents - Soap
    • Post Shave: Chicago Grooming Co. - Irving Park - Aftershave

Daily Theme Justification: While Declaration Grooming’s website doesn’t explicitly state this is a dupe of Parfums De Marly Herod, they share the same scent notes and Herod in the Bible infamously is responsible for killing a bunch of baby boys, thus the name Massacre of the Innocents. It’s all connected. I promise.

Daily Theme: I enjoyed the scent of this soap on my first use, but glad I only have the sample. For me, it is the same vain as TF Tobacco Vanille, but evolved and more sophisticated and for that reasons I really like it. My mind my change when I use it more. I used Irving Park simply because it is the only splash that I have that’s a dupe. They have few if any similarities, but have a nice contrast.

Daily Challenge: Last year I made an album of memes. This year I decided to do the same. I hope they bring some laughs to your Monday. Note: there are a few gifs sprinkled in.

    09.06.2025

    • Brush: AP Shave Co. Snakeskin w/ 26 mm Silksmoke Flattop/Fan hybrid
    • Razor: RazoRock Hawk V2; KAI Captain J-7 shavette
    • Blade: KAI Captain Protouch MG
    • Lather: HAGS - Apocalypse
    • Post-Shave: alum block; HAGS Apocalypse aftershave balm

-> 2-pass head and face shave; good shave except some irritation from shaving around the goatee…

I don’t know how I managed to need an alum block with guarded blades; it seems like my face really doesn’t like shaving that much. I wasn’t overly reckless, in fact it was rather slow and controlled. Well, seems like I still lack the muscle memory.

Apocalypse is a nice summer aquatic scent that reminds me of warmer days - while we got some sun today, it was still rather windy and a bit cold for June.

Primidi 21 Prairial an 233 de la Révolution, jour de Barbeau

There are sophisticated scents, and then, there are straightforward ones. Electric Sheep is straightforward, but that doesn’t mean that it wouldn’t be good.

The Zenith boar has been losing 5+ bristles the last 2 times I used it. I hope it is not entering terminal knot failure mode.

    Have a good evening!

    June 9th, 2025: Dupelgänger

    • Brush: Chisel & Hound “Spice Lily” - TurnNShave Tuxedo 26mm Synthetic
    • Razor: GEM - Micromatic Flying Wing
    • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE (6)
    • Lather: Ariana & Evans - 60’s Cologne - Cream
    • Post Shave: Stirling - I, Rich Moose - Aftershave
    • Post Shave: Stirling - Glacial Unscented - Balm
    • Fragrance: Barrister and Mann - Fougère Aromatique - EdT

    $discord

Theme justification: 60’s Cologne = Brut dupe. I, Rich Moose = SIR Irisch Moos dupe.

    Daily challenge:
    One does not simply…
    smh my damn head
    I kNoW wHaT i HaVe
    Never forget

$FOF - The mossy 60’s Cologne and I, Rich Moose both blend surprisingly well with the dank fennel, mushroom, and sage in Fougere Aromatique. I also swear there’s some wormwood in here… Ultimately, a lovely progression for the end of the day.

$SELFCARE - My wife and I both had hard days at work today, so we treated ourselves to dinner at our favorite Thai restaurant. Sometimes you just want to go out with your person instead of figuring out dinner at home.

    • Brush: Wald Stratos Haunter 29mm A1
    • Razor: Gillette President Y-2
    • Blade: Astra Superior Platinum (2)
    • Lather: Catie’s Bubbles - Midnight Dreary - Soap
    • Post Shave: Declaration Grooming - Opulence - Aftershave
    • Post Shave: Thayers - Cucumber - Toner

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

The date code for this Aristocrat places it in 1953, still in the throws of the atomic age.

My normal goto for dupes is Stirling. I have a number of the “Man” series soaps and planned to go with Island Man. At the last minute I took a look at Shaving Fragrance Homages and found that Midnight Dreary is a dupe of Tom Ford Black Orchid. I was in the mood for Caties Bubbles anyway.

I have Master Soap Creations “Bloom” soap which is a dupe of the same fragrance, but decided to use Opulence aftershave which a dupe of Layton by Parfums de Marly. I’m double duping today.
