  • My mother’s policy was that the first time we do something wrong, talk with us, help us learn why it was wrong and how we should have acted. If we do it again even with that knowledge, punish us.

I feel like that would apply here, too, even if you don’t see leaving them with the consequences as actively punishing them. But as a kid it’s easy to get in over your head before you learn your own limits, and you’re not born with the knowledge of how to bail yourself out. I think they deserve a grace period.

  • All right. I’m still going to specify next time, because the only posts I’ve seen about this descended into arguing about the US education system and whether it’s acceptable not to know this, instead of focusing on how to help people.

Unfortunately the only real answer I’ve seen from Georgians online is that they need pushback from EU members. As someone on the other side of the world, all I really know to do is to send money to my loved ones and hope they can move soon.

  • My mom’s birthday :> I’m a little sad as I’d hoped to have a surprise party for her, but I had to move unexpectedly and it took most of my savings. But hopefully she’ll enjoy dinner with a couple of her kids.

ETA also downloaded a geography quiz to take in my idle time. I didn’t really get the K-12 education that’s expected in the US, and I’ve always wanted to do better, but I can’t seem to study anything in a way that sticks. But I noticed I’ve gotten pretty good at word games and sudoku lately, so maybe I just need to make it a puzzle.
