I am definitely a llama.

PAX - before there was PAX Prime or PAX East.

This is what my family (and a few friends) use. We have been using it for a while now because it just works. Also, the kids have never complained about using Conversations, or about using it only for us (like if you have that one family member who won’t leave SMS behind - we’re that guy, I guess), and we can make as many channels as we need for the house, the kids, with each kid individually, for our MTG cards, with our couple of friends that use it, etc…
I don’t personally do the hosting, so I can’t speak to that. That’s the hubby’s thing
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The thing that gets me a lot of the time is falling up. I would trip while running or riding a bike, and lose contact with the ground. Soon I’m beyond any trees that I could grab, and just falling. Up. Until it wakes me up.
I’ve had nightmares about it since I was a kid (I don’t know when “old” starts, but I’m probably closer to that than to being a kid. Well, in age - I’m still pretty immature 😅)
I have had quite a few nightmares about not being able to find my kids during zombie apocalypses.
Same basic thing tho: the scariest part wasn’t the setting or scenario, it was not being able to save my kids from harm.
I read that ghost was federating, I think.
You’re not wrong! That is behavior that should be addressed - much moreso at food-related businesses than like, the hardware store, but is just good-human behavior when you interact with others. (Not everyone does that tho)
And if it is repeatedly happening at one place, it might just be someone working there who isn’t doing the right thing. (Or the soap there is potent and not in a way that you like.) If it seems like it’s happening everywhere, it could be more of a sensitive sniffer thing… Which isn’t really a Big Deal, it just is. Like the reason we are expected to wear less cologne/perfume in some spaces, to account for others’ sensitivity or allergy. As a courtesy
But not everyone sticks to that! (Also why the OP suggested that it means they haven’t done it)
It requires a human to do a thing. It doesn’t happen automatically.
The options I’m aware of are A) that spot to block/filter instances in Sync (which you’ve already done), or B) going to the web interface with a browser, going to your settings page there, and there’s the tab for Blocks. That page has ways to block a person, community, or (at the very bottom of that) instance.
I can’t help you with getting the filter to stick, but at least there’s another way (which should end up being client agnostic)
When the first flavors of Pop-Tarts were released in 1964 (strawberry, blueberry, apple currant, and brown sugar cinnamon), the packaging machines were expensive, resulting in hefty up-front costs. So, to be economical about their investments, the company decided to package the product in twos at the start (explained in the book “Better Than Homemade: Amazing Foods that Changed the Way We Eat” by Carolyn Wyman).
“To package them singly would have required twice as many machines. Kellogg’s didn’t want to invest in a lot of machines until they knew how it would sell," said Bill Post, who managed the first plant to produce Pop-Tarts.

Not a new thing at all

Yeah, tested on that post and this one, and it at least works in each post and comments. Good luck!

Like this, maybe?
(May not always be useful?)
That’s fair - I had just thought it must be the new normal, if it had trickled down to our city (city, but not big city).
The whole business of blaring ads at a captive audience is bs, either way!
I don’t live in a big city, by any stretch - but I guess it’s not the sticks, because we have that shit around here. And not just the busiest gas stations, by the highway. I hate it.
I thought it was normal to see silverfish every once in a while - but that if you see a lot of them it could be a problem.
It’s pretty normal to see them in a bathroom or kitchen, as they like damp areas; I have no clue about finding them in couches, tho.
They’re “Community” on Lemmy, and “Magazine” for kbin. I don’t know about elsewhere…
What navigation style do you use? It’s probably the same, just how you get to the view that shows the list of Local, Subscribed, and Everything. Left drawer navigation will look like this
Long-press the three-dot menu next to Subscribed for the option
My experience exactly when I tried mentioning the spoiler problem (there’s a markdown-specific post here if you wanted to add anything else, btw)
I think there are 3 ways of marking spoilers and Sync only recognizes 1 of them or something. Even on this community’s about section there’s a spoiler that doesn’t work in the app.

the spoilers are a mess.
Yup. They are (for now)!
Yes, it does show ads. It does that. (The same way a lot of apps handle free-tier.)
There are other Lemmy apps out there that don’t show ads, but I think Sync is the most polished of the bunch.
