A group of caste equity leaders have been fasting for more than two weeks to convince Gov. Gavin Newsom to sign a bill that would make caste discrimination illegal in California.

"If Hindus migrate to other regions on earth, Indian caste would become a world problem”- Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, victim of Hindu caste oppression, staunch opponent of casteism, and the architect of India’s Constitution.

I hate this type of reasoning so much. Nobody ever claimed there was a timeline. We aren’t on a schedule. It requires work. And the bigger the change you want to make, the more work it requires. Changing the ingrained culture of the largest population in the world won’t be easy.

No one’s asking Newsom to change anyone’s culture. He has to recognize caste discrimination as discrimination and make it illegal in California. Casteism wont decrease, but caste oppression will be made illegal and will have negative consequences. Hopefully, it’ll teach future American Indians Indian Americans that caste oppression is wrong.

ETA: corrected a wrong. Thanks @bionicjoey

I agree. I just don’t like the “It’s $CURRENT_YEAR” argument. Also, you may want to say “Indian American” instead of “American Indian”, since the latter usually refers to native Americans.
