I have a supermicro X9DRH-7F I am using for an unraid server as my media server for the last 2 years. Recently I had a sudden failure and all it would give me was ‘System Initializing…’ or hours when trying to start. Given the lac of info, I suspected the MB, so I replaced it with the same model.
After replacing, I was getting the same error. Further researched revealed that my monitor was cutting off the right side of the total display. So hooked up a wider monitor and I could see the code 15. Research shows this is a generic code for CPU/Memory. So I replaced the memory. I was able to reboot past the system initializing and got to point where it said it could not find my drives and was asking to reconfigure. I declined.
So now I believe it was the memory and not the MB, I put the old MB in place. It reboots after 2 seconds during powerup. This is new behavior, so I checked all my jumpers, my power connectors, and made sure all cards were seated properly. No change
I am looking for a solution to the reboot upon powerup or how to get the new MB to recognize my drives so I don’t lose the 3+ years of collecting media. Any thoughts, please and thank you
I’ve got a different Supermicro board. I’ve noticed that it’s extremely sensitive to SATA issues - if something isn’t just right it doesn’t boot or gets all kinds of wonky. A flaky cable is enough to cause issues.
I assume you’ve tried it with nothing but CPU, RAM, and video, but if not give it a shot.
CPU failure, try another if you have a spare. I had a similar issue with a dell 720, no other codes but would randomly switch off with no warning, replaced all the ram, went to replace the motherboard but thought to check CPU first. Glad I did and had a spare, been solid ever since. YMMV but good luck 👍
