TIL that there’s a pride flag to represent queerness itself.

"Queer is an identity in and of itself that more and more people are choosing to identify with. It is a sort of label for those who don’t want to put themselves in a box. Often considered a movement, queer people are those who fall outside of and/or renounce the cultural norms around sexuality, gender identity, and/or gender expression.

The word queer can mean different things to different people, but the most accepted definition is someone who is not cishet or someone with variant experiences with orientation, gender, and/or sex."

I’m a “cis” man, genderqueer to be specific but it isn’t something I can have pride in because of some sort of oppression or hate that I have received (some bullying in public school but that’s a different discussion due to the nature of the harassment) and I get all of the privilege that many people do not.

I don’t want to speak for everyone that is genderqueer, I logically cannot, but IMO I’m more than happy with the current most used pride flag and what it is supposed to represent.

My only regret is not having one! My wife is openly bisexual and I cannot believe it hasn’t crossed my mind to go out and buy one whenever I come across them!

Nah this isn’t a genderqueer flag, this is a more general queer flag. The genderqueer flag is different.

Oh I don’t mean to say that is a genderqueer-specific flag, only that, with my position on the “LGBTQ+ spectrum”, I feel as if the currently most used flag does an excellent job at representing me.
