I played the original on Gameboy and loved it, but this new release confuses me. it feels like they didn’t really add anything compared to the original? like, the graphics have been brought into the modern era, and there’s local multiplayer, sure. But it still looks like exactly the same game otherwise?? no new levels, no new concepts like a level builder or new stage/puzzle mechanics, no new items, interactables, or even collectables. Just the same game again with a fresh coat of paint. I don’t get it. do people want $60 USD “beautified” (original pixel style looked better imo) Gameboy games now?

to be clear I’m being genuine here, if you’re excited for this game please help me understand why, I want to be hyped for this with how important this game was for me as a kid

We talked a bit about this in a previous thread. The Switch has a massive user base, and the game is 20 years old, so there’ll be A LOT of people who haven’t played the original. It’ll also appeal to nostalgia for some of the people who played it when it came out. While Nintendo might be saving bigger titles for their next console, they still need to release stuff so people keep buying the Switch in the meantime. And my guess is remakes are cheaper and faster to publish than entirely new games.

Also regarding new content, from the article in the linked thread:

Thankfully, while most of its early levels are virtually identical to the original, the game’s fourth world is entirely new to the Switch version – the first of two new worlds in the remake – and it does introduce some original mechanics.

thanks for the response, I’m actually pretty interested knowing there are two new worlds with some new mechanics, maybe I’ll pick this one up after all

Did the original GB version have 120 levels? If not, that’s your answer.

The original game had 48 levels. This one has 120. Obviously it’s not the same exact game and has new levels and mechanics in it.
