If a factor of 10 difference is important enough to get its own prefix in SI, I think a factor of 8 difference is plenty enough to care about having clarified notation. This isn’t like the mega/mebi thing where the drift is only on the order of 3%.

yeah but using mb/mB instead of M(i)b/M(i)B is a factor of 1 000 000 / 1 024 000 which is more than six magnitudes greater than 8
