It’s why they stopped going after gay marriage so hard. It’s tough to be against gay marriage when most people know someone who is gay and sees that it’s not a big deal. The trans community is much much smaller so there’s a good chance that someone doesn’t know anyone who identifies as such, I’m one of those people. It makes it an easy target for conservatives to vilify and create more hate and division which leads to more campaign contributions.

Surprise, surprise, “the sanctity of marriage” (whatever that’s supposed to be) didn’t collapse and nobody wanted to marry their dog either.

This is how I thought of it before I knew a trans person:

I feel strongly that I’m a woman. Trans people feel strongly they are a gender other than what they were assigned at birth. If I was unlucky to get stuck in a body with a penis but nothing else changed, I’d have been trans myself. Could have been me!

This might be helpful for people willing to question instead of blindly hate, but who don’t really know anyone trans themselves.
