Yeah but they and their friends can “do it together” and/or they’re seeing tens of millions of people do it overnight. It’s just kind of a “I want to be a part of it” effect in some ways, whether they feel strongly about it or not. I’m sure there’s a more proper term for it.
The feeling of dunking on Musk took priority for a lot of folks.
I don’t understand why someone would choose threads over mastadon, where they could have all the dunking with none of the enshittening.

It’s a mix between heard mentally (well, all my friends are on it) and FOMO (what are they saying about me over there?)
