Yours is my favourite. I’ve witnessed several grease fires, but never one that geysered out of the sinkhole. Nice job, lol.

You’re not wrong, but now that I’ve read this article I’m pretty sure I can feel the microplastics inflaming my brain.
Well that’s absolutely horrifying.
Holy shit. That one lady was just walking around the New York subway and her eye implant went dark. That’s wild. Imagine if that happened to a wheelchair user, or someone with a prosthetic leg. Or an artificial internal organ! The company just shuts down and so do your body parts? Truly terrifying.
My partner is one of these. I have photos of him sleeping on planes, trains, boats and cars. He can be worried about something, or stressed about tomorrow, and still fall asleep within 5 minutes of laying down. I am so jealous.
I had already clicked out of this thread when I spied your comment and came back in! Your experience is a lifetime dream of mine. Poo-tee-weet?
You’re right. The ENSO (El Niño Southern Oscillation) cycle can take up to 7 years, but that’s the entire cycle (El Niño, La Niña, and neutral). El Niño conditions may only last months. La Niña typically lasts longer.
This year, they expect El Niño conditions to continue at least til the end of the year.
Also, this past La Niña was unusually long, about three years long. I’m not sure what that signifies but it seems like it might be important.

(warning: link to reddit) - the thread is ~3 years old, so it sounds like your rough calculations are correct.
I’m just a filthy casual, so I never had the skills to tame high level dinos and stuff, but this game was still such a time suck! And so frustrating yet addictive.
Fucking Ark. I have a major love-hate relationship with that game.
This review visualizes it well.
It was Christmas 2006 and I had an old iPod Mini that I was trying to put some more music onto. Something went wrong though and somehow all of the music, photos and videos had on the device was deleted. The only thing left was a single song, James Brown’s “I Feel Good”.
It didn’t make any sense how I could have accidentally deleted everything EXCEPT for one song, like you’d think either nothing would be wrong, or everything would be deleted. Why just one song?
Later that day we turned on the news and found out James Brown had died that day.
I know it was just a coincidence…And it’s such a small, inconsequential thing…but I still think about it sometimes.
The first Pratchett book I got my hands on was a thrift store copy of Jingo, and I immediately fell in love. My older sister read Discworld books, and she told me to read Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic next, which I did.
Maybe it’s because Jingo still holds a special place in my heart, but I think my favourite is any book that features Sam Vimes. Night Watch, Guards! Guards!, Men at Arms. The one where Carrot’s origin story in the dwarf mines is described, cant remember which book it is.
Sam Vimes, and Rincewind.
One Hour One Life and Two Hours One Life (open source) can be run on pretty much any computer.
The concept is: you’re born as a baby or a fertile woman and you have to gather and build to survive. Your maximum age is 60 years (OHOL) or 120 years (2HOL) and you hunt, gather, build tools, have babies and raise them. You can become the matriarch of a huge multigenerational family and build towns, buildings, farms, roads and weapons. People keep adding to it, I haven’t played in awhile but I think they have cars and airplanes now.
The graphics are MS Paint-quality but the gameplay is so incredibly fun. Highly recommend.
Some of them are. I visited a couple subs that went dark yesterday, and they had popup messages with fediverse lnks.
I have Reddark open on my laptop while doing chores. Listening to it ding every few minutes is cathartic.
I know a couple of Yoshi’s (Japanese) and the first time I met a German Joshi (pronounced “Yoshi”), I thought he had a Japanese name for some reason until I realised it’s short for Joshua. Also, I thought Naomi was an exclusively Japanese name, today I learned, thanks!
