I was trying to find active users since he took over. But the only numbers I can find are numbers provided by Musk, who is a well known liar.

I know Lemmy and Mastodon are niche communities, and that people put up with a lot of garbage from Big Tech, but I have to believe that a lot of users have left Twitter, or least that usage is down. I also assume bots are way up, because Musk wants his numbers to be up regardless of the source (save for people with an opposing opinion).

Hopefully Musk’s shitty little empire crumbles…soon.

You could try moving to another city in another state. The difference in pay (and support) for teachers is crazy.

As much as I don’t like cops, JFC do they get nice pay and benefits in my state- like from the start. I doubt my city is very dangerous, and the prerequisites are almost nothing. Also, it would be nice to have more decent cops.

Otherwise, I work in software as a manager. Not the easiest gig, but not the hardes, and you can probably get your foot in the door at a lower level if you can work spreadsheets, have patience, and mildly thick skin. Pretty good pay.

Also, ironically school admin positions pay well.

It sounds like you have a degree, so there’s lots of options. Otherwise, as mentioned, the trades are always calling if you can stomach early hours.

I have a malamute, so similar antics. It’s cute- except at 6am for breakfast… and two hours before dinner time…and when it’s time for a walk even when it’s -10 outside.

Not for everyone. But I wouldn’t trade it.

I believe it goes back to world war 2. The country froze wages for economic stabilization. Some employers started throwing in health care as an incentive during a labor shortage. We are now stuck with this poisonous system.

Regularly hit highs over 100 in the summer, lows below -30 in the winter. That’s an awful lot of compression and expansion. Not to mention the abuse of heavy plows and their blades catching upheaved concrete.

Wash your hands. Sleep in a separate bed if you can. Our second go around in the household, I assumed we were all doomed again, but somehow my wife was the only one that caught it.

My Linux knowledge isn’t what it used to be, but I believe you can easily make a thumb drive with a bootable distro. I would recommend taking whatever you choose for a test drive before you wipe a working system. That way you can see if there’s any weird stuff that doesn’t want to work.

Waiting tables at a casual+ restaurant? Yes. The ratio is mostly girls- in their 20s. The turnover is high, so there’s always new people coming in. You’re around each other constantly so it’s not awkward to strike up a conversation. Plus the parties were pretty fun.

I don’t think you’d have the same luck at McDonald’s, or in management, but serving at decent places I always had good luck.

When I was fresh in my career:

• I worked in restaurants for decent money, girls, and free food.
• Roommates save lots of bling.
• Someone always has a connection or a discount.

These are cool. I love the concept.
