  • I’ve been trying to run a 5k every weekend, but usually 2-3 runs throughout the week too so I can keep improving my weekend time - I fucked up though.

Haven’t gotten to the gym or out for a run once this week, last ran on Saturday and now going to run this Sunday. It’s going to be downright miserable, not looking forward to it

It was originally a brand of its own, and predated WWI. Dovo bought the trademark in the 50s, so presumably it was named after the Otto Von Bismarck. I did however always think Bismarck was also a title or honorific of some nature also, but this may be my mistake.

Regardless, I need to buy myself one just to have in the rotation just like having a Friodur and a W&B wedge is required for any collector

  • Razor: unidentifiable branded 13/16 1949 Berlin Airlift Souvenir razor

Was so happy this came up in my rotation, this may be my favorite straight of all, and the brand mark is totally unidentifiable to me.

Smooth and easy, gorgeous, square point DFS.

Also this house of mammoth embrace is really good, and I like the lightly fruity smell.

Running out of Fine Barber Blue and debating moving on to my Proraso Green next or getting more of the Fine, it’s such a bracing aftershave, great sensation to finish a shave

Best of all, boost for lemmy just downloaded so I can use Lemmy decently now

Absolutely. I’ve not used a shavette, but I have some shorter straights and a 9/16 I love, I definitely recognize the maneuverability of a smaller blade. I bounce between so many different blades, I can make any of them work but the variety does make clear how they really do act differently.

  • That makes sense, there are old pre-1850s usually straight razors with extra short tails, called monkey tails, but since 1850 the tail has actually become quite standard shape and size, with occasional outliers for decoration. The tedalus definitely has a strangely long tail, but sounds like you found it useful

Blade anatomy - this seems the most complete and correct image I can find of it. Point is also called the tip, tang is also called tail, sometimes people confuse the tang and shank. Some razors are shoulderless (makes sharpening easier), and a shoulder is different from a stabilizer though they’re often mixed up because they’re next to each other. This image actually calls the stabilizer the shoulder - the shoulder is the boundary line between shank and stabilizer or blade, the stabilizer is the space between that second line above the heel and the shoulder. Often razors have no stabilizer, occasionally they’re shoulderless too, you can’t have a stabilizer without a shoulder though.

I think you’re referring to the shank.
