I think for the most part it stayed in reddit, and I’m so glad it did. But I have run into the odd “classic” reddit comment like “sigh unzips” and jfc did it make me realize how much I had not missed that kind of tired, uncreative, dumb bullshit joke.
Some people really want lemmy, or the fediverse for that matter, to be reddit. And that’s not a bad thing of its own. But maybe we can let it be what it wants to be.
Tell him ElJefe from lemmy says he’s jealous!
Them calves tho…
Shut the fuck up, Donnie. You piece of shit
I love these birds. They’re very smart, but such assholes! They have learned to mimic a hawk’s call to scare off other little birds, and then raid their nests.
Watch them start making chargers that hook up to your infotainment system and run ads all the way through your charging session.
Edit: period.
much more valuable and varied in their applications as a medicine
You know why these “much more valuable applications” are known? The pill for women has been around for so long that doctors and medical researchers have been able to observe and test it. We’ve yet to see what other potentially valuable medical applications a male birth control pill can have. While your argument doesn’t deny the support for male bc, it very much seems to support the idea that women should still carry most of the burden and responsibility of bc, and all the side effects that come with using whichever method.
This is great and all. But it’d be even better if there were more awareness campaigns on male contraceptive options and a bigger push for the male birth control pill.
Or maybe, y’know, just don’t do stupid shit
I hate that my attention span and adhd make it so hard to read interesting studies.
I’m not mad. I’m just… disappointed.
A reply I got from him on a thread below just read like trump wrote it, and then goes on to say that he “literally just said” what I then replied. I’m like mf where??
lol ok. Im sure a bunch of white people got offended on behalf of us.
Someone’s gotta balance the scales
Without getting too deep into it, I think the simplest explanation is that speedy Gonzalez was just funny and entertaining. I don’t think many people at the time stopped to think too much about it being representative of our culture or even a stereotype. Looking back, sure, it is a stereotype, but one that even by then was so outdated that no one thought twice about it perhaps being offensive.
I think a very interesting part of Mexican culture is to learn how to not take ourselves too seriously. I had to learn to deal with being made fun of for the stupidest things. It was always “el que se enoja, pierde (he who gets mad, loses).” So you had to learn how to take it and dish it back. And the idea was to keep it as a battle of wits, without becoming irate and physical. I have to admit, I lost more times than I’d like to own up…
Lol no. It “offers” the mirage of a better quality of life. That’s like saying that gambling is a job that will invariably improve your economic position. The chances of immigrants actually improving their life by moving to the U.S. aren’t that good. I mean, most of the countries that people move from at least have socialized healthcare.
