I also thought about getting a Fossil Hybrid as it’s supported by Gadgetbridge. I’d miss sleep tracking though and I’m still too much of a Pebble fan to let go. I have 3 PTS in good condition and one ugly scratched PTS with mushy buttons for parts. Have been eyeing a PTR but I too would be annoyed by having to charge it every 2 days so I think I’ll refrain from that. I’m not really good at repairing things but if one of my PTS fails I’ll at least try to replace the broken part.
I had the same problem. I was fed up with my Amazfit GTS 3 and pairing a Mi band 6 wasn’t possible when I tried. For now it made me turn back to my trusty Pebble Time Steel (left wrist) and an oldish Mi band 3 (right wrist) which I intended to put on eBay but fortunately never did. Gadgetbridge is connected to both simultaneously. With the Pebble I can even mark tasks (in LoopHabit) as done and have as many reminders as I want. The Mi is only there for pulse tracking. I’m happy with this combination but I can of course understand that not everybody would like this as one has to charge two devices. Edit: the Mi 3 was the last device without encrypted server side pairing if I remember that correct.
Not helpful, I know, but take your upvote from a fellow Pebble user for a really interesting question 👍
After going with Xiaomi devices for some years (with Gadgetbridge) I revived my trusty Pebble Time Steel only yesterday. This thing is 8 years old and doesn’t do heartrate but it still tracks my sleep more precise than any of Xiaomi’s devices ever did. Maybe you can find a device in good condition on eBay? Be sure to ask sellers for daylight pictures of the screen with settings menu or a bright watchface. If the battery is dying the screen looks like nacre cause it’s being lifted by the battery.
I recently got an Amazon Warehouse deal for a Moto G42 in decent condition for 158 Euros (incl. tax). I know this device has only 2 years official firmware support left but I put LineageOS on it and couldn’t be happier. I don’t need high end devices as long as I have a headphone jack, microsd slot and huge battery. Also my old and trusty Lenovo Thinkpad W530 from 2013 is still good enough for me with Linux. The only thing I don’t like is that I had to disable hyperthreading for security reasons cause it has a vulnerability and Lenovo won’t fix it anymore. But tbh I only notice a difference when compiling things and that doesn’t happen too often. I plan to use my devices until they’re broken beyond reparability.
Damn, me too and I was in the same age.
For me Termux is perfect as it is. Have been running a debian chroot in it hosting a few services I consider important like Grafana dashboard and Shiori (bookmark service) for quite some time now.
I can confirm. Have been using this with swipe library for a while now and it made me finally ditch gboard 👍
