Doesn’t sound familiar but I understand there’s very little to go off here
Can’t remember the name but there’s a novel set in Ireland in the not-too-distant future
Synopsis implied it had become a surveillance state but didn’t gave up before confirming due to the literal writing style
I swear every sentence was written in the passive voice (poorly remembered examples):
“It was made known through the clothes he wore they were sent from the department of security”
“As she walked outside the smell made Spring’s arrival clear”
Totally fine normally but do it every single sentence and it becomes a mystery novel where the mystery is what the hell you just read!
… Or idk, Harry Potter 5 is pretty meandering
Pick any human development index measurement and view its progress over the past 10 years
Why is the date range backwards?
I see some of their paintings are dated at less than 2000 years old so it would be CE but that’s not necessarily true for all their artwork
S*
It doesn’t stand for anything
Keep your share of rent between 1/4 and 1/3 of your income, set up passive savings contributions of at least 10% and use a high yield savings account to stave off inflation until you both have 3 months living expenses and understand why the best investment strategies are boring
If you’re in university, your desired career and its requirements should determine your major, , not the other way around
I graduated with a bachelor’s degree only to realize my career was a dead end because only in my senior year was I informed there’s such thing as a “mental health license” for which I was disqualified due to low grades in a non-related class the year prior. Eventually I learned how well blue collar jobs pay (with a lot of job security at that) and got back on my feet working in logistics but I’ll never see the 50x return on investments by retirement because “why learn about finances when you can barely pay rent”
It all seems very obvious in hindsight
The power of pins. The power of pins. The power of pins…
I had a feeling this would be the answer. I use OpenStreetMap for projects at work as the API was way easier (and the price made it a much easier sell to management) but hadn’t used the mobile app until now but it’s quite impressive
Only reservation is a question of whether or not a satellite view is available to check for the presence of sidewalks when not marked
edit: found the Mapillary add-on and 360-only filter. Really can’t believe how extensive the coverage is. Sounds like there’s no need to settle any longer
It said the 62-year-old had died from a “self-inflicted” wound on 9 March and police were investigating.
Assuming there’s nothing more insidious than what’s thus far reported and maybe even if there is, this would be far and away the most damming thing a person could do to Boeing in the long run
Design is too mobile responsive
Mongolia is a rabbit hole of weird facts
NE has the same no-grocery tax rule. A handful of states have no sales tax in general (I believe SD and either NH or VT for example) and many, if not all, won’t tax groceries purchased with whatever food stamps are called in the respective state
I DECLARE… DEAAAAAAAAAADDDDDDDDD
Not sure if achievement of medieval China or failure of mid 20th century America
I was just thinking this sounds like Lemmy becoming e-Mormons
The fact is most people are perfectly happy being herded like cattle if it means avoiding a slight learning curve and new ecosystem
I could be wrong but is the previous statement referring to Lemmy, Mastodon, Linux or my entire career of shielding management/entrepreneur types from minor technical details?
Tbf, the 3rd party apps improved greatly over the past 6 months
Forgive my ignorance (actually, no, bitterly hold a grudge against it but answer the question through your repressed seething anger) but why are there 2 Mastodon logos?
Idk what your society or definition of “insanity” is but assuming you’re asking what we believe most commonly leads to one’s mental health entering a negative feedback loop:
Broadly speaking it’s some form of hopeless desperation (yes, the hopeless qualifier matters here) that commonly kicks into high gear after falling into homelessness, at least based on my own observations
Some also get to play on hard mode simply for winning the genetic and/or socio-economic anti-lottery
