  • The lack of working hardware acceleration is mostly NVDIAs fault for not providing open sourcr drivers, and the community’s effort at reverse engineering the GPUs has been nothing less than Herculean. As for codecs, Fedora is derived from Red Hat, which is an enterprize distro and does not include (proprieatry) codecs to avoid licencing issues. Every problem you have listed is a result of corporate fuckery and not of Linux.

As for tech support, with Microsoft you can click the “diagnose” button, which does nothing, or spend a lovely time with an outsorced call Center which again, does not solve the problem.

  • I really don’t understand the hostility towards nerd/tech oriented communities. Every time an online community dares to be on the nerdy side you get people loudly proclaiming how that’s the worst thing ever, and that we need to expand until every Tom, Dick and Harry has a user acount.

Usually, when a site is adopted by the general public, the quality of the posted content goes down the toilet. Bots, shills and intrusive advertising follows, and the site dies a slow death. Reddit’s r/all was a museum of ragebait, reposts and celebrity gossip, and I certainly don’t want Lemmy to do an enshittification speedrun because some users refuse to learn how the fediverse functions.

  • I swear you liberals refuse on purpose to understand that in the grand scheme of things the action of a “bad guy” can still be beneficial.

Please tell me the benefits of running a genocidal war of aggresion for anyone that isn’t Putin.

Russia isn’t conquering the world anytime soon. So what would you rather have? a more multipolar world where russia has a relatively safe and solid position after showing that it won’t be bullied into submission by nato (with the whole world watching), or a world where russia is balkanized into several statelets without the political, economic or military strength to resist capitalist infiltration?

The “bullying into submission” is a paranoid fabrication of an increasingly unhinged fascist regime. Ukraine had no intention of joining NATO until this war, and now as a result of this fiasco even Finland has decided to join. And your usage of this particular phrase shows that this whole affair is Russia throwing a temper tantrum at its irrelevancy on the global stage. And if Russia is indeed balkanized into statelets (hopefully not, we don’t need even more nuclear quasi-states) it will be the fault of the guy currently pissing himself in a bunker near Kremlin.

We saw what happened last time russia got defeated. We lost a bastion of socialism, we saw tens of millions impoverished while a few capitalits dismantled everything that the USSR had built, and the whole thing ushered 40 years of hegemonic atlantist domination.

Once again, tankie, Russia is waging a war of aggresion. All they have to do to prevent their defeat is to turn their tanks around and go back to Moscow. But that would mean the surefire end of strongman politics and the fall of Putin, so gadflies such as yourself have to regurgitate propaganda. And lamenting the loss of USSSR, imao, the country that was so prosperous that it a wall had to be built in order to stop people from escaping it. Truly a workers paradise. Perhaps 80 years of economical mismanagement and political repression was responsible for its collapse, and not invisible NATO gremlins with sledgehammers.

So yeah, i am rooting for the “neoliberal protofascist dictatorship”. There is a reason why literally nobody in the global south sanctioned Russia. 75% of the planet is reasoning the same way i am.

The global South has neither the economical leverage, nor the political will to impose sanctions. They are staying away from this because they gain nothing from it.

Please stick to posting on lemmygrad, you are embarrasing yourself outside of your echo-chamber.

  • What a a pointless, ad ridden mess of an article. The popularity of Forgotten Realms stems from the fact that it was aggresively market ed during the 2e era, since the creator of the setting was on board, unlike Gary and his Greyhawk. The author mentions the (terrible) tie in novels that were also a major factor in its omnipresence, but they also drove the metaplot which diluted the setting into its curent “generic fantasy kitchen sink”. Personally, if you’d put a gun to my head and told me to run a game in it, I’d probaby avoid the Sword Coast in favor of the east/southeast, Dalelands or The Sea od Fallen Stars being the most likely canidates.

  • The community and the app is still relatively new. To be honest, I prefer smaller communities where I can leave for a few hours without half the posts sliding to page 5 and beyond. Instead of uncritically consuming digital content, try to contribute to smaller communities, post a couple of cool links, or even (Gasp! Horror!) do something else for a while.

  • Here are some of the introductory one shots/starter adventures I have run:

Winter’s Daughter - originally for OSE, there is a 5e version available. Very fairy tale oriented, might not be best for hack&slash oriented players.

Village of Hommlet - A classic, can be used as a basis for a long term campaign if you bother with learning the backstory of every villager.

Against The Cult Of The Reptile God - best played as a mystery, with the BBEG revealing itself at the most innoportune moment. Don’t event mention the cult, let the players figure it out themselves. May take 3-4 sessions at least.

A litany In Scratches - Don’t have a lot of prep time? Want to scare the pants of your players? ALIS has almost no combat (at least not until a certain part) and plenty od spookiness.

Broodmother Skyfortress - Out of the box thinking and weirdness galore, this will certainly upend their (and your) expectations.
