I have an attic that gets direct sun until the afternoon. It gets quite hot. I had easy access to the rafters so I used radiant barrier, and the difference is very big. As you’re putting it up you can tell that it’s blocking the heat standing in an a covered vs uncovered area. In subsequent days when it was all up it was obviously cooler. It’s still hot but not unbearable.

Radiant barrier is more expensive and fiberglass probably would have worked just as well in this situation, but I didn’t know enough about air flow in that space to tell whether fiberglass would impede anything,so I used radiant barrier and left a gap at the bottoms and tops. It is very easy to install. Fiberglass wouldn’t be too hard either, but the barrier is daed simple and there’s less volume to move around.

In general, my experience say it’s going to help, and whether you do fiberglass or radiant barrier is up to you.

I think @grue is referring to the gap between the floor and base of the cabinets. For the most part, having legs or a box isn’t very different. I know someone who has cabinets with legs, and they sell toe kicks that attach to the front, so it looks just like a cabinet on a box (like this https://www.canarycabinets.com/dsc03526/). However, as @grue pointed out, it’s not clear to me how you’d secure an island cabinet with legs. For boxes, you attach a board to the floor, then attach the box to the board (see Figure 13 here https://www.familyhandyman.com/list/how-to-install-cabinets/). What keeps the island you have secured? If it’s only attached at the wall, I would think it could flex if force is applied to the end far from the wall. Does something hold it to the floor?

A bleach solution or white vinegar solution will kill it. You could spot test for colorfastness on all surfaces first. And there are places online that give solution ratios.

Other people have better ideas, but a very small dab of blue Loctite (the one that isn’t permanent) on the bottom knuckle would keep it in place but probably be removable with a hammer and pin.

I’m guessing it’s a right-angle quarter-turn ball valve. It’s crimped on one side and looks like a compression fitting on the other. Maybe it’s a gate valve, which in my experience are far more prone to leaks, but the notches in the handle make me think ball valve.

T Mobile has an app called Scam Shield that seems to do a better job than Google. If a call is identified as a scam, your phone won’t ring. You can report ones that get through. I installed this a few days ago, and it’s much more manageable now. I get something like 20 scam calls a day. This kept 15 or so from ringing.

I have started asking callers various disheartening questions, like “Is this what you planned for in life?”, “Does your family laugh at you?”, “Do your friends have better jobs than yours?”, “Are you an embarrassment to your parents?”. Most hang up, but a good number get upset - I imagine because their parents really are embarrassed by them. One person, whom I asked if he was happy with his choices in life, said “I am in hell”. My hope with these questions is for them to rethink a life of trying to cheat old people out of money.

Automatic sorting is a nice addition.

Gmail (and maybe others) ignores periods in the address. Only use labels in combination with extra or removed periods, and filter any address without a label and the wrong periods. If they remove the label, it goes to the bin.

This is built into some email services, where you with address+label@email.com, you can set the label to whatever you want and it all goes to address@email.com. unfortunately many sites will incorrectly claim that + is invalid in am address.

The real problem is how do we centralize all communities. I mean, there’s a Linux community on lemmy.world, but also Linux Web sites, forums, chat rooms, people on Twitter that post about Linux. Sometimes people talk about Linux in emails, or text messages. They’re probably having in person conversations about Linux. This fragmentation is ruining things.

The argument that a president is immune from trial sounds like nonsense, but I don’t understand why Sauer failing to answer is the slam dunk the author says it is.

Many people from other countries fret about the unsafe plugs in the US. They of course do not have the same level of safety, but it also doesn’t appear to matter. I have never been shocked inserting or removing a US plug. I don’t know and haven’t heard of anyone who has. People do get shocked, but for other reasons.

Maybe the insulation built into the siding isn’t worth it, but my last house had foam installed beneath the vinyl siding. I noticed that the house was much more comfortable before I knew that insulation was there. I’d recommend getting the price estimate at least, especially in a cold climate.
