Not only that, they advertised recycling to push public opinion that it was okay to switch to plastic, because plastic is recyclable. But they didn’t tell us, it’s never going to be economicaly viable to recycle plastic toothpaste tubes.

Most of those 100k kids waiting to be adopted are older kids. A lot of people want to start with an infant. Not everyone is equipped to adopt a teenager who has been in foster care for years. Then there are people who want bio kids.
Fascinating! I always think of owls as cold weather birds. I didn’t realize they lived in the tropics too.
Interesting idea.
Some random thoughts:
The intake port wouldn’t be desirable in humid climates.
Though the air outside in winter is dry, it’s also cold. The dryer heater is much less efficient than high efficiency furnaces or newer heat pumps. So while you’d remove the humidity, you’d have to heat the air more.
It’d be very interesting to see a cost analysis of your idea. Though I believe you’d need one for each climate region.
And you may ask yourself “Well, how did I get here?”
How do you know that meta hasn’t created an account on a popular well federated server and it’s using those credentials to scrape the fetiverse?
You have to assume whatever your post to the Internet is available to anyone and everyone connected. Why would federated servers be and different.
I guess I was taught it. There was a paragraph in our history text about it. The teacher said a sentence or two on it.
It’s addictive.
I’m in playthrough 20. Each playthrough the factory becomes more efficient (usually).
I read a book about Lean Manufacturing and I needed to apply the learning to the game. It’s interesting to see the changes in this playthrough. No more supply buffer chests. I’m relying on just in time supply chain. Well except the past of my factory that makes the factory, that’s still full of chests of stuff waiting to be built.
In a previous life, I did loss prevention. The average shrink rate in retail in the USA is 2%. That means 2% of the merchandise leaves the store without being paid for.
An average Walmart does millions in sales each day. Conservatively 2% of one million is $20,000.
Thousands of dollars of unpaid merchandise leaves a big retailer every single day. It’s part of the cost of doing business. That’s also why online retailers are cheaper. They don’t have to deal with external theft. They still have internal theft.
Shrink is the industry term. It’s merchandise that isn’t paid for and isn’t there when inventory happens. Theft is most of it, both by customers (external) and employees (internal). It’s also things that aren’t rang up right at the register, damaged merchandise that isn’t removed from the system correctly. It’s a big umbrella term.
Yep, when I first got here I used the search. Now I just lurk in all new and find my communities.
Fair enough. Those don’t exist anywhere near me. IMO blue = Walmart
You’re in a Walmart.
They claim to be cheaper so they can have that drabby distopian look.
In the good parts of town, they look nicer. In the poor parts of town they’re legit worse than that.
Fwiw, I’ll pay the extra dollar per shopping cart for the superior look of a target. Target is generally cleaner and crisper looking. As always there are exceptions to that rule.
Yes, my friend did several of those in the early 90s. He mailed many dollars. Never did he get a dollar.
And here we have why I have not connected my smart dishwasher to the Internet. Those 2 extra wash cycles don’t seem worth it. Especially considering I only ever use the most powerful sounding wash cycle.
how do you prioritize your home projects when under budget constraints and they are of equal importance or unimportance?
I’m a fan of lists for this type of thing. Include how many hours of work and cost today and the costs and time if you skip it for a couple years. As in peeling exterior paint is cheap today, but if not addressed, you’re replacing boards for much more time and cost.
how do you deal with the overwhelm/frustrations of previous owner issues or poor workmanship?
They were trying their best to keep it in decent shape. Just as you will do the same.
their pets urinated in every room with carpet
There is a product called “Nature’s Miracle”. It has an enzyme that removes urine smell from carpet. It’s sold at pet stores or online. Get the gallon size to start.
My search results keep wanting me to go to Reddit. I’m trying to avoid it, but it keeps calling.
I’m not scrolling there like I did before the “Spez killed the 3rd party app migration”. I miss the level of engagement and ease of finding communities. Lemmy is decent, but the post volume is lacking. If I scroll new now, and again 12 hours later, there’s not much new stuff before I see the stuff from last time.
A lot of things in life are perpetual changing.
Some day the pendulum will swing back to pro intellectual. Once people comprehend the damage the just like me leadership has done.
Switches not bulbs
Yep, having just moved and trying to setup the new/same network in the new house. Most of the new house is already fully led or had many bulbs on one circuit. Thus I need switches.
Other thing, save the instructions. I bought a new hub for the new house. Getting stuff to pair with the new hub was a disaster and I’m still using the old hub. Unpairing instructions would have helped a lot.
I seriously doubt it changes much.
Hypermiling is a thing where people try to get 100 mpg from a compact car like the Honda Civic. It’s been around for a few decades now.
There are things you can do to improve aerodynamic abilities of the car. The biggest is the wheel shrouds and overall car shape (nose and tail). Then you’re covering up seams in the body work. I’ve not heard of anyone swapping out or door handles.
I’m sure the cause drag, but there is so much lower hanging fruit to address before changing something that small.
Would you prefer they go back to mandating that you use Internet explorer?
Progress is slow little steps forward, with a step back here and there.
Chrome was better that ie. It was also available for use on all of the big operating systems.
The fewer Internet browsers a page has to support the faster it is to build and the more people will have a uniform experience there.
