We have two giants to thank: Microsoft for making themselves a public enemy, and Valve/Steam for making Linux more attractive than ever for gamers. In no small part this is thanks to Valve’s Proton (no relation) for running Windows games on Linux.

Proton Drive for Linux (easily the biggest pain point for Linux Proton users) is on their roadmap: https://proton.me/blog/drive-roadmap-summer-2025
At the same time, we’re continuing to improve the SDK — preparing it for public release and ensuring it provides a solid foundation for the upcoming Linux Drive app, a popular favorite on the community wishlist.
Better late than never! However the wording is a bit vague and it doesn’t explicitly say Drive for Linux will release this summer. I hope it will though.
Python 1: Ssssssssssss…
Python 2: Sssssssssssss…
Python 1 swallows a chipmunk.
Sorry, I had to.
I absolutely love Python but I don’t understand this question. Scripts are many to do something, their purpose is about a million times more important than what language they’re written in. This amounts to “what scripts have you made that you happened to use Python for?”
Ignoring the word “cool”, I’ve made some scripts for OpenStreetMap:
https://codeberg.org/NeatNit/gtfs2osm-il this imports bus stop data in my country into OpenStreetMap. I run this script daily. Really proud of it.
https://codeberg.org/NeatNit/ptna-gtfs-import scripts for PTNA, I won’t get into what it is (it’s really niche) but these scripts are used by PTNA to enable automatic import of route lists: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Public_Transport_Network_Analysis/Syntax_of_CSV_data#CSV_data_import_definition:_@
They all use Python… Is this that you had in mind?
I love that factoid! It was also a question on Lateral podcast. I just spent a few minutes trying to find it on their highlights channel on YouTube, but no luck.
I’ll take it, and I stand corrected.
Awesome! I cross-posted this to !crossview@lemmy.world :)
My thoughts exactly lol
This is the second post in a row where I see Douglas Adams referenced.
I can see the similarity but IMO this isn’t that close to Douglas Adams.
Edit: did DA make a lot of puns and wordplay? Specifically taking well-known phrases but using their literal interpretation?
too late at that point :)
Only heard about him for the first time recently, in the context of the Stop Killing Games initiative. He spoke in support of it (which is a good thing, yay), and is apparently involved in some way in the drama that gave SKG the boost it needed.
Trying to figure out who the hell he is and how he ties into it, I watched one of his videos on YouTube (reacting to someone else’s video about SKG). Instantly got the impression that he’s an asshole… But at least he’s on the right side when it comes to SKG.
Yup, that about matches my thought process when I made that comment. Economies of scale make the complexity irrelevant.
Honestly I barely saw anything of her, I just knew she existed. Now she’s notorious for that 180 in the public’s perception of her, which is why she came to mind.
She’s far from the first, though. Very different circumstances, but Bill Cosby also springs to mind.
As for Taylor Swift, I know about as much about her as I did about Ellen, which is very little. I never got any icky vibes from her though, besides the inevitably hypocrisy that comes with being filthy rich and mega famous (private jet + preaching about the environment). Not enough to make her out as the bad guy.
Is that true? I’m too scared to look up prices. Electronically, touchscreens are infinitely more complex, but I can believe economies of scale brought it down lower than buttons… I just don’t want to believe that.
Ellen DeGeneres v2?
We can all* agree that we want a person we find attractive to place some of their skin in contact with some of our skin. Beyond that, don’t sweat the details!
* I phrased this as inclusively as I possibly could but sorry aromantic asexuals, you might not be included.
I feel dumb that I needed this explained to me. Thanks.
I don’t get it… is there anything to get?
:)! :)! :)! :)!
This would be read aloud as: S M I L E exclamation point! S M I L E exclamation point! …
(it would spell out the word “smile” instead of saying it)
This was perhaps the densest TTS runtime to character count.
