They have their branding which will push people to use their platform. More people using their platform = more content coming from threads. Once they have enough posts from threads that people from other instances are used to seeing mostly threads content they’ll defederate. People will miss the volume of posts and then move to threads.

99% of the time, PCs abilities aren’t your concern, all you need to worry about is knowing if it sounds like they something they might be able to do. Worst case scenario just ask them to read the ability description.

The main 4 monster books from KP are published under an OGL and are available on open5e , you don’t get any lore, art, or advice on how to run the monsters without paying for the books, but you can see the statblocks.
The kobold press website also has a tool that can show you the environments a monster can typically be found in.
I would still recommend getting the books, especially if you want to use any of the higher CR monsters as the lore makes it a lot easier to understand the mindset the creators had when designing them.
A slightly better variant on 1hp is giving them regular HP but they die when taking any damage, that way sleep doesn’t knock out like 20 dudes.
Also save spells deal no damage on a success.
