  • My first born wouldn’t accept a pacifier over his thumb and we didn’t know well enough to press the issue. With insurance it cost $3500 that included getting him fitted with a device to stop the thumb sucking, once that behavior was kicked he was fitted with an expander, top one required manual adjustment every week or two depending on ortho assessment. We would go in every month or two to monitor progress along with the occasional trip because an expander broke. He is currently without expander and things have been great for a couple months but in June we go in to determine phase 2 way ahead after things have time to settle, braces likely.

My youngest is five years younger, he was the pacifier user, scheduling his initial evaluation is on my to do list before we go back in June so I can’t speak to a medical difference yet.

I could tell my oldest son had a narrowed elongated jaw structure without formal training though. I was glad we could get everything sorted from that perspective before his adult teeth started impacting anything. I still believe braces will be required to shift teeth around better now that theirs more room.

  • Thumb sucking is the worst. Even when they are convinced to actively try to stop it still happens in their sleep and the nail polish is useless in my experience. Just leads to a kid spitting in the corner. Ultimately leads to a thumb sucking prevention device and expanders costing thousands of dollars to correct over the course of a year or two. My second son had a pacifier because I was able to assist meaningfully in weaning him off of that. I was not permitted to chop off my first sons pacifier.

  • I trained myself over years after realizing stress was killing me, I was unpredictable to be around, and struggled to eat with any regularity which led to really bad eating habits.

What ended up working is when something would happen that upset me I would close my eyes, take a deep breath, go to a room by myself and just sit down with my eyes closed and do box breathing until my nerves settled. Then when I opened my eyes I would say to myself, ok let’s go get this mud cleaned up.

Admittedly it doesn’t work in a car, crowded location, or even work necessarily. Over years my impulse control and roll with the punches attitude really developed. Maybe too much, when my ex wife said she wanted a divorce it was kind of just an “ok, do you want me to move out or did you plan to? I’ll see what paperwork we need to fill out “.

I enjoy life so much more though. My dog peed in the laundry room shortly after coming inside and I remember a time when I would have been incredulous about it. My response was to chuckle and say “oh buddy you know not to pee inside”, grap a swiffer and throw the pad in the load of wash I was starting.

Maybe I just got older, life experience and all that. I do think the separation from what happened and box breathing exercise really helped me in being able to put things into context and just let life be life though.

  • I’ll never lose sleep over it and don’t care for the whales but I do directly donate $15 a month, sometimes individually but often times to 2 or 3 individuals. The only service I pay for otherwise is realdebrid. I started donating as I got to a comfortable place in life and am happy to contribute that subscription plus my $15 a month donation to the project, creator, artist w/e. I pick based on the content our household is consuming or projects I want to support.

At the end of the day I don’t think anyone needs to justify anything. Even if pirating is considered to be immoral, which I’m not arguing, it would still be the least immoral practice in the process compared to all the shit that takes place with large commercially developed content.

If things ever got stupid I’d just play crossword and do puzzles, I’m not so attached to electronic media that I’d pay over $50 a month for the entertainment.

  • I bought a tie hanger with hooks. It lets me hang up my four belts and ~10 ties (that I’ve never worn again since the rona). I’m usually in sweat pants and hardly use my belts anymore now that I think about it. Anyway, I really like it. Think this would have more Utility and use less material with just hooks.

    Mine looks like this one
