Not sure whether this implementation will be lighter on resources than what Lemmy currently uses. Given the overhead of the JVM though, it’s unlikely it will be supported by, say, a single Raspberry Pi

In a similar fashion, it would be great to find a way to migrate your post history, not just your followers, between one service and another. So far it’s possible to request a backup, but only a few services allow importing said backup, let alone import a backup from a different provider (so far only Firefish, Pixelfed and its derivatives allow for the latter).
If you want to read the gritty-nitty of how exactly was the Widevine blob patched and worked around specifically to not violate the DMCA, here’s the specific article
Either you plug a wired microphone each time you receive a call, or you explicitly do not receive calls with the device and use it as a tablet basically.
GrapheneOS requires specific safety hardware that, as of now, is usually available only on the Google Pixel line of phones. If your standard smartphone doesn’t include it, I doubt a car does.
I’d love to move to mainstream Misskey, but there’s a core reason why I’m using Firefish at the moment, namely the ability to actually import my old posts from Mastodon. To my knowledge, pretty much nothing supports importing posts in the Fediverse, except for Firefish and forks, Friendica and forks (to an extent), and PixelFed.
Hopefully that’s the case! And hopefully somebody steps in legally in case the new developers decide to just ignore the GPL terms.
If all the developers of the GPLv3 version agree to relicense their contributions, it’s unfortunately possible to close-source further versions of the source code. Does somebody know if Simple Apps accepted external contributions?
I mean, a fork is indeed possible and in progress. But the main version on the Google Play Store will almost certainly be no longer open-source.
If the next version is close-sourced, that means that it won’t be published in the repository that F-Droid follows to build their version. Yeah I think you’re safe.
Unless you use the Play Store version, in which case the tainted new versions will be coming any time soon.
Personally, the current environment has led me to avoid most of the popular culture instead.
There are two options here, given that the OS seems to rely heavily on React Native to work: having the streaming APKs converted to React Native apps, or simply use the web browser and PWAs.
I wonder if they’ll consider Codeberg as their future Git host of choice. GitHub is less than ideal in terms of digital sovereignty, GitLab also has some questionable leadership. Codeberg seems like the most solid alternative to these so far.
There is a Pokemon competitive player named Chuppa Cross IV. Which means not only that somebody was unironically named Chuppa, but also his father, and his grandfather, and his greatgrandfather as well.
Know what would solve this problem once and for all? If people collectively decided to boycott “popular culture” and entertain themselves without bowing to the copyright industry
While online I have most of my items under lock and key, my personal computer at home is set to boot automatically with my password (since the attack vector of “having the feds raid my home” is fortunately not an issue for me). So in the rare case that I’m no longer available, my family can just get my user names and passwords from my computer
I expect to see distros that use Flatpak as its exclusive package manager, even for the bare-metal, in the near future. Also, Linux as a remote desktop on the cloud will probably be attempted at a larger scale, given that Windows 12 is rumored to try that route.
My mom likes to do assorted crafts, so we have a few painted adornments, even a 3D painting of sorts she made using some specialized putty and acrylic paint. It looks real nice, I should upload a picture of it later.
Oh so THAT is why the add-on defaults autocomplete to “off” and warns about the possibility of that exact attack as the reason why it’s off by default.
