Imagine Jesus as a director of a company that accepts all sincere applicants. The director assumes responsibility for all the mistakes his employees make, but he doesn’t assume responsibility for people who only claim to be employees. People who purposely commit crimes get fired and applications by people who apply with the purpose of commiting crimes get rejected for not being sincere. (That’s not to say someone who once was fired can’t reapply if they’re actually sincere about it, but since God sees into people’s hearts and minds, you can’t trick him.)

Just checked mine. Apparently, some of my edited comments were removed, while others stayed up (with identical content).

Subreddits where my edited comments (in new) were removed unconditionally:

• /r/linguistics
• /r/nottheonion
• /r/memes (only commented in that subreddit for a short time frame, so whatever auto-removal there is might only apply to edits to old comments)
• /r/eu4 (lots of removals, but 1 edited comment survived, no idea why, it’s neither the youngest nor oldest edited comment there)

Partial removal subreddits:

• /r/facepalm (some edited comments survived, at least one was reversed, didn’t notice a pattern, might be based on user reports or depend on which mod sees it)
• /r/pettyrevenge (edits of comments younger than about a month were removed, edits of older comments survived)

Also, looks like some subreddits that were private when I ran the edit script (like /r/MadeMeSmile) have since gone public, so I’ll have to re-run Power Delete Suite.

That’s indeed impressive.

The difference is that rather than just having no expectation of privacy against recording (Reddit model), in federated space you are guaranteed an official subtitled hologram with sound is recorded by design and shipped to other town squares all over the world and shown. And you have no expectation that you’ll be able to convince those town squares to delete theirs once they have it and basically no chance to if your own town square is bulldozed or your town has gotten into a feud with theirs since you did your townsquare shouting.

Easy. Kbin/lemmy admins actually listen to their users, unlike spez and his cronies. The asshole can move to their own instance and continue there, but that might get them defederated.

It’s an unavoidable feature of federation that up-/downvotes are public. Kbin chooses to make that fact visible, but if it didn’t, it would be easy to make a tool to get that information from any fediverse instance. Kbin making that fact visible at least alerts you that your votes are public.

That’s a bad take. There are some users that regularly write outstanding content or even just a series of posts that you don’t want to miss the next installment of. Examples on Reddit were /u/Gambatte in /r/TalesFromTechSupport and /u/SqwrlTail in /r/TalesFromTheFrontDesk

You are indeed wrong. The email and IP addresses and passwords for example don’t get copied. I’m not well versed enough about how it works to go into more detail.
