well, no, gawker did themselves no favors by 1) posting a video of another person naked having sex , and then, 2) refusing to take it down when asked to “for journalistic integrity and definitely not salacious ad revenue”

this doesn’t mirror that at all, in the slightest, except it being funded by someone wealthy

these folks are still confused that they have protection under “free speech” arguments anywhere except if being penalized by the government for it. there are no constitutional “free speech” arguments to be made against private companies, who are under no obligation to allow whatever speech they deem hurtful or potentially hurtful to their business.

When it was shown that Zuck was actively undermining American Democracy, without care for consequence, I deleted my Facebook account, have never used it’s messenger, don’t Insta or META anything ever. Same with Twitter, I mean, why would you choose to contribute anything to these monsters … so you can stay in touch with high school friends you never chat, call or speak to?

Ad Blocking is Cyber Security, never ever let anyone convince you differently

My impression is the thing with modern day ad tracking, selling information to spammers, and hackers is, even if you secure your browser tighter than a drum, any one of your browser extensions, which we’ve given permission to read all site data on every site you visit and interact with, could be keeping extensive logs on your activity and selling that away to the highest bidder. Am I understanding that right?

thanks for the tip, i’m already on firefox, but when run it said i had “some protection” for both blocking tracking ads, and blocking invisible trackers, added privacy badgers after reading your post, because why not, and now it says YES for both

I’d suggest Mastodon to anyone looking for a new social media platform to join, but I can’t suggest Lemmy/KBIN as they don’t have legitimate blocking in place, as theirs is simply the same bullshit Reddit like “masking” where you can no longer see who you blocked, but they can still see, and reply to whatever it is you post, which of course is rife from abuse from the people you want to distance yourself the most from. Until there’s legitimate, you no longer exist, blocking on Lemmy/KBIN I would suggest anyone else use them. (to say nothing of all the errors in KBIN from notifications, to blocking, to posting, to seeing comments, the list stretches endlessly)

I moved to KBIN, because Lemmy’s namesake owned the largest personal collection of Nazi memorabilia in the world for years leading up until his death. Lemmy was an entire piece of shit human being. Fuck Lemmy.

KBIN has had it’s issues, most noticeably, I haven’t been able to access any of my notifications for about 3 months now at all and every time I click on the notifications number to check it throws up the “were working on it” error page, attempts to block users from certain instances doesn’t work and throws up the error “we’re working on it page”, and you can’t seem to block entire instances from KBIN without it seemingly unrelatedly weirdly losing the ability to see comments in disparate random posts (all known issues) … other than that I’m perfectly happy on KBIN

Invest in a cheap amazon projector or large expensive tablet add one more thing you gotta schlep around on business trips

Due to unpatched glitches, you can’t even block them or their godforsaken instances from KBIN anymore
