Maybe you’re meant to be single, maybe you’re not, 20 is pretty young imo to come to that conclusion. Especially with how you’re describing your interactions with this guy, that just sounds like it would’ve been a train wreck of mismatched desires, interests, values, and expectations. So I found products like you’ve shown on Amazon while looking to do the same for my chair but the cylinder on my chair is bigger than I guess “normal” ones, so what I ended up doing instead was using something apparently called a pipe nipple, like this one, that fits over the cylinder. I got the idea/process from this video except substituted a metal nipple like I linked above instead of a plastic coupling like they show. Anyway, it’s been working fine for 9 months so far, just make sure you know how much height you want between the base and the seat for the length, and that the inner diameter (ID) of the nipple fits the outer diameter (OD) of your cylinder.

It’s stage magic as a spell. It’s not designed to be subtle, the opposite in fact (though this isn’t to say that it can’t be, it just requires extra resources). You misdirect observers with sleight of hand and captivating personal presence so that they don’t quite catch on. It’s not hard coded in the rules how to make that work so you’ll have to work with your DM on that a bit, but it’s probably an easier ask than to just not be noticed at all.
