    • Brush: SBS handle with 28mm Boti Knight synthetic
    • Razor: Yates 921-EH
    • Blade: Wizamet
    • Lather: House of Mammoth - Voices
    • Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Voices

The Yates EH plate is smoother than I remembered, perhaps the Wizamet is a particularly good match for the razor or my lather was just on point. Tusk remains a top tier soap base for me, and Voices is just wonderful every time I use it.

    • Brush: 28mm Motherlode Synthetic
    • Razor: Feather Artist Club SR Kamisori
    • Blade: Kai Captain Titan Mild PInk
    • Lather: Saponificio Varesino - Opuntia (spiked with Permafrost)
    • Post Shave: Chatillon Lux - Colbeck

Summer time in Taiwan means highs of 35C+ almost daily so every day is a good day for some menthol. I find that I enjoy both synthetic and normal menthol and I’ve even started adding menthol drops to my shampoo which feels fantastic.

    • Razor: Yates 921-H
    • Blade: Wizamet
    • Brush: Boti 31mm Motherlode Fan
    • Lather: Barrister and Mann - Passiflora (Omnibus)
    • Aftershave: Barrister and Mann - Passiflora

I seem to be making a dent in this tub of Omnibus fairly quickly. Probably need to use it more to figure out the optimal loading time.

  • I’ve uploaded images directly to Lemmy and it works fine, though I don’t know if there is resizing going on and I don’t know about space limitations on the instance. One nice thing about using Lemmy on a desktop browser is you can copy and image to the clipboard and paste it in directly into the comment box and it inserts it effortlessly.

Good question because I was wondering this myself.

  • I googled and I couldn’t find anything that relevant. I just don’t think it’s fair to say people are spreading misinformation when what you said isn’t backed by scientific data either. It’s not good enough for me to hear, “Oh, a doctor told me this so it must be true”. I’ve never heard of alum blocks being used in a medical setting and Google isn’t turning up any results either. To me this is the same as the videos going around at the beginning of COVID where a doctor put out YouTube videos telling people how to disinfect all their groceries and he was called out by a actual food microbiologist for spreading misinformation.

I’m in the camp of alum doesn’t do much for me (and yes, I have Osma), but I’m happy to be proven otherwise. So far everything I’ve seen has been anecdotal. It might have some effect at stopping minor bleeding, but in my experience it doesn’t work as well as styptic. To me, alum is just one of those things that you try and you use if you like the way it feels, don’t use it if you don’t like it or if it irritates your skin. Definitely don’t use it just because someone tells you it’s great.

    • Razor: Feather Artist Club SS Kamisori
    • Blade: Feather Professional
    • Brush: r/wetshaving 31mm Zenith Moar Boar
    • Lather: Declaration Grooming - Southern Paradise
    • Aftershave: Declaration Grooming - Southern Paradise

I probably underloaded a bit but the lather was still pretty good. I have a tendency to overcompensate when I use a stiffer brush on a softer soap and it was my first time using the moar boar on milksteak so I didn’t want to load half the tub for one shave. Still not tired of this scent.

  • I was pretty excited for Noble Otter/APR - Texaus when it came out, but when I first got my hands on a set I thought the scent strength was weak and was a bit disappointed and couldn’t really pick up on the various notes listed. Over time my love for it grew and I killed the tub of soap but fortunately I still have more than half the splash left that I’m enjoying slowly.

The geometry is different. The SS has a very pronounced lip that is supposed to help stretch the skin a bit, but in practice kind of forces you to use a slightly steeper angle of approach. The SR is the newest model and tones down the lip quite a bit so it feels a bit more natural to use. The SR also has more weight to it. I generally prefer the SR after getting it but revisited the SS again lately which was fun to use as well.

Here is a great page comparing the various offerings.
