I’m sure the common working middle class republican can relate to having 500 million dollars from old fashioned hard work and the government wanting to take it away.
Right?

This asshole is just exercising his options to take money from the same moderators that were up in arms over his changes last year. Make no mistake, this is Spez’s revenge.
I really hope this whole thing backfires on reddit, but I think the reality is that it will further enshittify until it’s profitable, and it’s already so big it’s unlikely to fail.
Lemmy just isn’t a replacement and I think the nature of lemmy will stop it from ever being one unless someone throws godlike resources at one giant instance that federates with basically nobody.
You’ll hear a lot of people talk about baratza models. They are great at grinding and are fairly low cost.
You will have significant issues with static electricity and every time you use it you will make an enormous mess. I have had limited success with water spraying which is generally considered to minimize the impact. You’ll be sweeping the floor, using a wet cloth on your countertop, washing out the bin, and using a brush and cloth to clean out the machine. I have found the only way to clean out the chute where grinds exit is to use percussive maintenance, otherwise you have grinds just hanging out in the guts of the machine which are statically charged, just waiting for you to pick it up for next use.
After a while I decided I didn’t think a $150++ grinder that needed so much attention and care for regular use was worth it and instead order my beans pre-ground every 1.5-2 weeks from a local roaster at a minimal price premium. I figure let them deal with the mess while I get fresh coffee far more often. My prep time and cleanup is next to nothing thanks to this.
It’s all about convenience vs “perceived quality”. I don’t perceive the quality of freshly ground beans every day to be worth it vs avoiding all that mess, wasted table space and stuck with just one blend for weeks and weeks or very stale beans.
If you absolutely love the hour morning ritual of prepping and cleaning your coffee implements then i’m sure it’s quite therapeutic. I just have other priorities.
The young hate the old for having more than them.
The old hate the young for having more time left.
Ubereats lets you set the tip after the delivery. afaik the others don’t.
Should be illegal to prompt a tip before services are rendered, including at those POS machines that ask you up front to tip even a small amount.
Even if your drives are all SSD you’re never going to have so many writes that it dies unless you download a full catalog of 8k content daily then nuke it and start over… for a few years
Already cancelled my prime account when this was announced months and months and months ago.
You’re already getting recurring subscription fees from me, so you’re getting paid even if I don’t use your services for any period of time. Stop fucking around and playing games, adding ads is double dipping. I’ll just stop the recurring transactions and find services elsewhere.
It’s perfect. It enshittifies itself. It’s like the shitty rule of capitalist economics in the 21st century.
For over a year it’s been fairly trivial to play unauthorized copies of games online with normal players. Should be no surprise they are pulling the plug after their copy protection is broken.
Should get about 6 more years out of the Nintendo Switch’s online service before they pull the plug too if this is any indication.
That’s like saying “My corporation doesn’t need anti-virus! we have smart users!”
Defense in depth is the only philosophy that makes sense in this case imo.
I get you probably don’t care at all about people who interact with your community but letting bots run free is something I really dislike. I suspect the majority of users feel the same.
Just takes one disgruntled person who is unhappy with you to flood your server without any captcha or other measures taken to prevent it. Might be still under the radar to a degree as of right now but that will not always be the case.
I pay for a single netflix sub, crunchyroll, and a vpn service.
After netflix announced ads i’ve been more and more considering dumping them and just focusing on that vpn service. I have paid for years and years of streaming services but I can’t possibly comprehend how prices need to go up again and again, almost always by double digit percentage points. The cost of storage and bandwidth goes down over time, servers get cheaper over time… there’s hardly any first party new media that is worth watching so i’m struggling to understand why i’m paying more.
The most bizarre thing to me though are people who pay for live TV… why in the world would you ever do that in 2024 with all the better options out there?
