Literally have not been back since I decided to leave before the blackout.

Considering incised to spen hours a day s rolling that place, I haven’t missed it and just moved on. 12years or more I was a regular contributor and viewer and quit cold turkey style :)

It’s good to know I’m not alone… I buy a lot of games and have a huge catalogue over a number of systems. It really is the thing I enjoy most as downtime.

However, I can count on one hand how many title screens I have seen over the last 5 years. I get so far, lose interest, move on. Several months later I will feel like playing again, wipe the save and start over rinse and repeat.

Games that keep calling me back however are Skyrim, Fallout 4 and the Bioshock trilogy.

Gerally it’s decent… I don’t use it anywhere near as much as I used Reddit but I’m not sorry to see the back of that place.

It can be a little buggy sometimes, responses dont post or further posts fail to load. I think the lack of consistency is whynim using it less at the moment but overall, happy chappy :)

I have never understood people’s lack of ability to just move on.

Don’t like something, like seriously just move on, don’t like a post / comment, move on rinse and repeat.

And yea, thoroughly depressing… I find the situation similar to the old micro transaction / shit game port situation where the masses couldn’t care less and the small minority rebel and have little to no effect.

Sadly those that care about these things are generally grossly outweighed by those that couldn’t give a toss. I haven’t been back to Reddit for 4-5 weeks now and as a very early Reddit adopter I thought the break would be harder than what it has been. I have mentioned in a few posts here that the most surprisong thing to me is how often I was being served subtle ads guised in the form of content on Reddit. In 4 weeks or more I don’t think I have seen a brand as such mentioned on Lemmy yet with Reddit it was legit every dozen posts. I knew this went on, but it took a week or so on Lemmy for me to realise the actual extent of it…

Good riddance to the place, Lemmy feels like the early doors of the internet and I’m quite comfortable here :)

I didn’t know they were planing a tablet and my Samsung has just about had it’s day… This could work out quite nicely!!

This is a pretty poor usability design decision and hope they reverse it.

I don’t have an answer but I’m also quite interested to find out what kind of server specs are we talking to get off the ground? Would love to hear from someone that has recently started their own…

That’s pretty epic not going to lie !!!

I remember I became really friendly with a girl from Malta. We wrote a few letters back and forth after meeting on ICQ but unfortunately life then got in the way and we lost touch. I have scratched my head on so many occasions as to what her name was I would love to reach out and see what she’s been up to all these years.

Kudos to you staying stay in touch all this time. That really is awesome :)

MSN was a blast… I can’t say I used Gooey or Odigo they don’t ring a bell :)

I remember eventually progressing into IRC relay chat (the app I used to use was called MIRC) and that was a blast.

I remember the first time talking to someone on MSN and they were in America. I’m not exaggerating when I say it blew my mind ! I could reach out and speak to someone that far away almost instantaneously. It was and still is phenomenal to me. So much so I eventually changed careers to become a developer :)

Honestly, I’m really enjoying it and no regrets on making the switch.

Initially took a few moments for the penny to drop with the regards to the different instances etc. But using the Jerboa app is not a million miles away from the app I used to use for Reddit (Boost).

Just incredibly glad to have an alternative.

Ahhh good old Napster I forgot about that one… Waiting hours to download a full track only for someone to answer the phone part way through.

You can count me in that age group too… I was there for the very first dial up, ICQ, Messenger, Kaza and the rest of it.

Shut my account on Reddit a few days back and have not been back since. Can’t recall how many years I was there but it’s easily 10+.
