I use both and much prefer Mastodon. As others have said, it’s more mature and the apps (of which there are many) are more polished. Bluesky is a bit glitchy and less feature rich. In fact, you still can’t mute phrases on Bluesky, which is a deal breaker for me.

Mastodon is harder to find people due to the federated nature, although some mobile apps such as Megalodon on Android and Ice Cubes on iOS do pull follower and following lists from remote instances which makes it easier to find people.

Bluesky is more like old Twitter, and many people who I’ve followed for years are on there. Trying to out quip each other. Mastodon is more friendly and I’ve found lots of interesting people to follow.

I realise it’s little consolation, but having not seen the before it looks great. I’ve had a beard for, like 20/30 years and rarely last more than a couple of months before getting annoyed with it, lopping the whole thing off and starting from scratch.

My getting old moan is that my hands barely function when I wake. I used to think it was because I lie on them, but apparently it’s a form of arthritis. No doubt brought on my 30 years of work in videogames development. Luckily my SO has brought me a cup of tea to wrap my creaking hands around to warm them up and get them moving again.

No luck catching them swans then?

Personally I’m an oat milk man. Primarily because I kept getting confused since Aldi’s soya milk (yum) and almond milk (boak) have nearly identical red colour packaging, while the oat is totally different.

But… If I had to do cow juice, it’s true blue baby. All the rest is water.

Using a Kingrinder K4, which I believe shares burrs with the 1zpresso J-Max. Takes probably less than a minute to grind 18g of medium roast. Pretty happy with it. I think it has about 250 clicks, so lots of precision.

I’m an espresso handgrinder sort of person, but I do know that the Ode 2 is pretty well thought of for pour over. If you aren’t doing espresso I don’t think you can go wrong with it. James Hoffman did a video review on his YouTube channel a few months back.

I use a Gaggia New Baby espresso machine that I bought for £60 here in the UK of Facebook marketplace. A £100 manual handgrinder (Kingrinder K4) and speciality beans from a local roastery. The espresso I can make at home tastes better than all but the best speciality shops where I live. Honestly, it’s sort of spoiled me now, and it’s rather disappointing when I go somehow I don’t know and end up with a mediocre coffee!

I think it’s either 1) my memory, 2) my schools or 3) my parents! Although my sports days were mostly 40(!) years, so perhaps is a 70s vs 80s thing. Although now I think about it, I was quite a sickly child so there is a chance I was ill for many of them, or I used that as an excuse to avoid participation.

Last year the youngest fell halfway through the sack race and just called it a day, rolling around on the grass. A chip off the old block. It was worth it for that.

Both kids have their sports day. Smallest in the morning, biggest in the afternoon. I must be a bad parent because… urgh… really? When I was young, parents never went to school sports days. Wtf happened? So that’s my day. Standing around waiting for the 20 second bursts when my child does something in between inevitable rain showers. I’ll have to seek out my camping chair and prepare a flask of strong coffee.
