I find that slowing down and just meandering through the things I have to do more slowly and comfortably, actually helps when I feel burned out. Maybe with some music. Feelings of urgency/tension in my body actually sap my energy way too quickly, before I can even get started. So I focus on managing stress preemptively.
This is not applicable to everyone or every situation but it made a big difference for me.
I have memories of different therapy words that my divorced parent and others used to disparage their exes in the 1990s. It’s an awful circle. Nobody can just have normal conflict.
Bad news, but also I am relieved to hear that Ricefail is an apparently common experience.
Every time I cook rice it comes out bad. Tips? I’d like to be able to make edible rice without purchasing an appliance. Movies and history tell me this is possible??
Humans have a right to their thoughts and feelings including the weird ones. We have to protect that right. What they do not have a right to is control over anyone else on the basis of that. That is the problem here.
The carceral side of the mental health system still exists and still hurts a lot of people, mostly poor and marginalized ones. People still die and get abused and lose their rights because of it. So it’s not a thing to wish for the expansion of.
Clarissa-Jan Lim wrote a great article which called it ‘Panopticontent’. That phrase lives in my head forever now.
And not for the better. I think people are actually much less kind to each other when they are aware of being observed. Or worse, deliberately performing for content.
No one’s burying their head in the sand. They’re reacting to the fact that it sounds here like you are resenting women for talking about their own oppression. It’s not zero sum my friend. We know patriarchy hates men too. This specific article just wasn’t really about that. There are other places on Lemmy that are talking more specifically about the issues you raise here, though.
Your last paragraph here is very important. There are massive political implications to these kinds of family and group dynamics.
How tricky is this to install and use? I have a samsung and use lots of the usual apps. Wondering if it would be feasible for that purpose.
I genuinely don’t even know where to buy an affordable device that is free from this kind of control. Some company always has outsized control (and in some cases arguably surveillance) over anything you can find on the market. It sucks so bad.
Ew. Fuck google
“You f–k with the president and the government, your security is not the same, and neither is your family’s”
See, this isn’t good. I hate living in a society where embarrassing or contradicting those in power can change someone’s life for the worse. Quiet part out loud though.
Disagree. These companies are exploiting an unfair power dynamic they created that people can’t say no to, to make an ungodly amount of money for themselves without compensating people whose data they took without telling them. They are not creating a cool creative project that collaboratively comments on or remixes what other people have made, they are seeking to gobble up and render irrelevant everything that they can, for short term greed. That’s not the scenario these laws were made for. AI hurts people who have already been exploited and indistries that have already been decimated. Copyright laws were not written with this kind of thing in mind. There are potentially cool and ethical uses for AI models, but open ai and google are just greed machines.
Edited twice because spelling.
This is a good one.
This is it exactly. There are a lot of great use cases for software, but I’m uncomfortable relying on them, because i know once i start using an app or program in X area of my life or to manage Y problem, it may change or become less useful or start to exploit users in some way. Not everyone doez this, but unfortunately the way the market usually works makes me less and less likely to want to rely on or use software for most things. I want analog, private ways to do things that I control. It sucks, because there are still creative people like op who want to make neat projects. But i’ve really been burned.
Consent first. If you are particularly close and truly trust each other, I think this can be a false binary. But many codependent and possessive people confuse being entitled and controlling with helping. If someone’s a real friend, then this needs to be a conversation where both people share their limits and needs and feelings about this sort of thing. It can be incredibly good to have someone catch you when you truly need it, but some people take advantage or feign concern for the power trip. People need to be able to TALK to their friends.
I bought this for my switch after watching a playthrough and can’t wait to have time to play it myself. The writing is SO GOOD and so beautiful. Belongs on my bookshelf with all the other books. Just poetry, and all kinds of themes and resonances. Top tier
It’s subscription based, but Nebula is creator owned I believe. Sucks though that everything free gets acquired by some extractive company.
