Pretty sure it does, actually. If I look up a route and my partner looks up the same route at the same time both from within our house, mine usually has about a 3-5 minute faster eta.

I do a lot of highway driving. It’ll frequently tell me “in X miles take the exit towards [whatever]” but it will refuse to tell me what exit number I’m looking for until I’m within a mile or two of it. This is frequently a problem when I have exits with A/B/C branches which is often. I don’t give a shit if I’m exiting towards I40, just tell me I’m exiting on 13B, and tell me that from the beginning.

It used to do this, it changed a couple years ago, and I’ve been pissed off about it every time I’ve had to drive somewhere since then.

It’ll also randomly change voices on me, it’ll flip flop constantly between the American accent and a thick British accent. No rhyme or reason to it either, it’ll be a different voice on the same turn on a different day. Drives me nuts.

Okay, so, I agree with you in spirit, but this sounds like you’re attempting to legislate that social media companies are not allowed to pursue user engagement of their product. Basically telling them that they’re not allowed to seek profit. I don’t actually know how you go about drafting a law that describes this correctly, or how you actually enforce it after it’s in place. Basically every move these companies make would then have to be subject to scrutiny by a court of investigators to see if it falls outside of legal boundaries or not, and said court is statistically likely to be chock full of people that have less than zero idea of what they are actually looking at.

That particular genie is out of the bottle and I don’t know how we put it back in short of banning social media and/or advertising altogether, which is basically a non starter, that’s not realistically going to happen. I do support this goal but we need to cook this a little more to get an actual solution and not a leaky band-aid.

Depends how you define a shape. I don’t think it’s a polygon because it doesn’t have straight lines. Technically a circle also isn’t a polygon by the same rules, but circles have their own special little clubhouse. Sure is a shape though. I think this… thing is also a shape. Just not a useful one.

Oh they’ll keep producing just fine. But when demand suddenly drops to half or less of what it was, they’re going to run into trouble, and fast. America imports an absolutely ludicrous amount of oil for many purposes. If the country collapses, that supply/demand chain dries up.

Realistically, all the American Mega-Barons that are doing all this oil business will just set up shop in another country. Africa, maybe - plenty of open space and not much regulation out there. But that will take time and investment, time that existing oil supply barons may not have.

They’d probably survive, but I have a hard time seeing all of the Middle East just quietly watching America burn down when we account for probably a solid half of their budget sheets in their most profitable sector.

Except middle eastern countries (with the exceptional of Israel). They’ll probably just sit back and watch the US burn.

Hope they’re cool having an awful lot less money then, the US is one of the main powers propping up the oil industry out there. We stop buying and the market collapses. It’s not like Russia is going to step in to buy the surplus, and I doubt China would want to even if they probably can afford it.

Oh sure if you get run over by a tank you’re going under the treads and it’s lights out for you. No question. My point was though, with sedans or older smaller trucks, the point of impact would hit around waist level on most adults and you’d be thrown up and over the hood, which would bleed off a lot of the lethal impact damage. These days the full weight of the truck is going to hit you in the chest and shoulders and you’re not getting thrown anywhere but forward and under.

If you’re a child, you’re pretty screwed either way, but modern big trucks are way, way more dangerous in a frontal impact than they used to be just based on the shape of the things. That big flat face is like getting slammed directly into a wall at 80mph.

Well, for one thing, an M1 Abrams main battle tank has better front sightlines than most trucks on the road today.

And it isn’t even that much more dangerous to get hit by because of the giant flat-face front impact planes of the trucks. Used to be if you got hit by a car it would roll you up over the hood, now you just die.

I have to imagine that will impact the testing and design at least somewhat.
