  • I say to one of their neighbors, “their pies tasted better when they were using real sugar, but they’re scared the kids’ mommies will be mad because their kids are up all night so they just took the sugar out. Didn’t even replace it with anything. The Johnson’s still use real sugar, they don’t care.”

Actually, I would say that unless it impacts you negatively, you shouldn’t criticize what others are giving freely. If they ask for criticism, that’s fine. But you shouldn’t volunteer it.

That “free pie stand” didn’t do you wrong. You dumped a heap of negativity on them for something they did out of the goodness of their heart, spending their time, energy and hand-earned money on. And you were negative about it, staining their memory of that event for your own selfish desires.

If they had asked you, “why don’t you want this pie?” you could have answered, nicely. But they didn’t ask you.

Instead, you should have just left and gone to the Johnston’s pie stand instead.

  • I 100% agree with your point about security and private information, but you are way over qualified for this “job”. ;)

It’s kind of weird to ask someone to have all that mod experience and then expect them to just post their private information publicly, though. Surely if they have enough experience they’ll already know what a bad idea it is to publicly post people’s information, and it’ll be hard to get them to apply.

It reminds me of a past job recognizing that I have a lot of cashier experience, but then not being able to understand why I refuse to share a till with anyone else. Duh, because I’ve been through that pain before and any smart office will want to avoid it, too.

  • I finally solved it. Voron KAMP’s Voron Purge technique puts little blobs of filament on the bed. I also have Voron Tap. My tool head was hitting those blobs and moving upwards slightly, causing the extruder not to squish the filament into the bed in the same pattern as the voron logo from the purge.

My solution was to initially to move the purge further way, but that kills large parts of my bed usage. So I just wrote my own purge line script and I’m using that now.

I hope this helps you solve your problem!

  • My mother lost her shop because she was selling charms (on bracelets she made) that had copyrighted/trademarked designs that she bought from China. She didn’t produce the actual infringing part, just partnered it with her own stuff. She still lost her shop after a few strikes.

I assure you that Etsy is serious about that, but it takes a few reports to actually shut the shop down. If nobody else is reporting them, it could take forever.

Go ahead and report them. If they’re really bad about this, they’ll lose their shop immediately. Otherwise, it’s a very strong warning.

Edit: Also, if you really don’t mind them printing it, but want credit, release it under an appropriate license that states that. Otherwise, you’re only helping unethical people and preventing ethical people from doing it.

  • Initially, I agreed with you. But then I realized: These authors don’t ever want their work anywhere near an AI. Their work could then easily be used for things they don’t agree with.

Of course, if they publish it at all, it’ll still be available to be used like that against their wishes, but at least they didn’t support that directly.

I think Angry Robot should have a checkbox (checked by default, even) that allows the author to opt out of the AI-based classification process. That’ll mean their story needs more effort from Angry Robot to review, so it’s less likely they’ll make it in… But if they have a good story, that won’t matter.

When I’ve had something like that (or just underextrusion randomly part way through a print) I’ve decided it was a clog and did a “cold pull” on the filament to fix it and it seemed to work. It can be insidious because it sometimes clog and sometimes doesn’t.

Though, I’ve also had people suggest it was “heat creep” where the heat gets too far upwards and melts the filament too early.
