I feel like there are some missed opportunities

• Sensors that don’t work because a proprietary driver is missing
• Having to add repositories to get wifi working
• Voice assistant that only works if you know terminal command parameters by heart
• More tool windows
• More xorg.conf to get displays working
• A flame war about the relative benefits of obscure infrastructure componemts
• 7 package managers, 3 if which are needed to install 90% of needed software. The remaining 10% somehow still needs to be installed via shell scripts
• Completely new UI in each version, still looks like it was designed by german ocelots in the 90s

The company behind Home Assistant also maintains ESPHome, so I’m sure hardware hacking conversations are welcome.

We used to, here in Finland, but I think now they crush them and reform them into new bottles. The things cost 20c/piece, so everyone returns them.

I think they mean competent in the legal self determination sort of way: not needing a guardian.

At least here in Finland there is an excemption that can be granted on medical grounds which allows people to wear their bathing suit in saunas. There is even a badge that can be sown on to signal this. I always imagined it was for this exact purpose.

I use gimp daily, but it is still far, far behind photoshop from when I was studying and that was pre 2010.

The biggest problem is the UI. The only major improvement was the transition from multi window to single window with tabs, around 2012 or so.

It feels like using a hammer with a purple dildo for a handle. I can do it after 10 years of getting the hang of swinging around the wobbly thing. Meanwile the rest of the world transitioned to battery driven nailguns and I’m still swinging my dilmer with a slightly more rigid handle.

Lithium batteries are happiest between 20 and 80% state of charge. You should not store them outside of that range. Charging a little often also doesn’t hurt your battery like many seem to believe.

Charging while cold is bad, but storing in cold is good.

Also, NiMh and NiCd batteries are different tha Lithium based ones. Check what type of battery you have. Phones and EVs are almost always lithium though.

Well, it is for sure an S-Video cable. There was a 7 pin variant too, but it doesn’t look like the one pictured. The other end has a 4 pin S video and composite video cables.

As you say, it is for some kind of specific product, perhaps a video capture card?

We have the same system in Finland, and it also accounts for income for capital gains. It does not, however consider assets or the increase of value in assets except during years when assets are sold (when the increase in value is converted to income).

Still, a better system than fixed fines.

We don’t have the concept of cash bail and suspects and convicts do occasionally flee. It does mean their belligerence is no longer a direct threat to our society, which is something.
