Sometimes you have to make the best out of what you have. I had a similar situation with my Hurban Cowboy. I loved the fragrance, but the lather was mostly air. I’m using it as a bar soap, and realizing that it’s also very drying.

I shaved normally - one pass ATG, followed by more lather and touch-ups. I’ll add my voice to the chorus of positives on all four of the videos that reviewed this razor/head: This is a nice razor. It’s more aggressive/efficient with more blade feel than my Gillettes, but that efficiency gave me a BBS with far less effort than I need with my Gillettes. I could feel hints of irritation when I got lazy and stopped riding the cap, but with a thoughtful hand this razor offers very satisfying results. That said, I’ve never used Derby blades before, and since I had two variables in this shave, I have no idea how much of the aggression/efficiency can be attributed to the razor, and how much to the blade. I’ll use this blade in one of my Gillettes tomorrow, so then I’ll know. I want to try this Razorock with one of my Wilkinson blades and see how that changes this razor’s personality.

I decided to join the 21st century, and bought a new razor from Razorock. The Yin & Yang model comes with two heads, the more aggressive Mentor, and the more mild Mission. I used the Mentor head and with a lot of lather and a light touch, it did a great job of cutting through two day’s growth. Have a great day, everybody!

A cut above the rest.

That seems to be a popular bowl. Glad it works for you.

I like it a lot. I was told that it’s a suribachi bowl, but it was sold on Amazon as a shaving bowl. Whatever, I like it. The textured bottom really whips up a nice lather. The only downside(s) that I see are that it may be too large for some, and the flared rim allows some lather to escape the bowl while whipping up the lather. I have no problem with either. And it was only US$10, so it’s quite a deal.

Great shave today. I found the Old Spice shaving bowl online and bought it for tradition’s sake. It took more work to build a lather than the LinkIdea bowl with the textured bottom. It’s growing on me. I like it now, whereas when it arrived I didn’t. My wife says I smell like leather shoes.

A quick shower shave with the ball end tech. I was a lot more careful not to add any pressure to the tech, so I got a much better shave than last time. I scraped some skin off the side of my chin. It was a bit red but there was no blood. There was no feedback from the Nivea balm - surprise! Great razor, great soap, great brush, great shave.

That’s really cool to know.
