A little bit of a late response, but the difference is that tiktok and facebook have a legal team, which we do not. One lawsuit and we would basically be toast.

That wasn’t meant to sound mean, just something that popped up in my head because it was about a birthday.
Eh, well… I can’t really respond to that statement if I don’t know who you are talking about.
I understand that my comment was ambiguous, I tried to say that the current admins, in my experience, don’t enjoy banning people.
I disagree, the account that was banned posted a lot of good content. We are not talking about 12 year olds, we are talking about people between 16 and 18.
Yea, I agree, and I would personally be for that. But I am not well versed in the law, and don’t have any stake in the legal side of it all except for me liking lemmy.world, so it’s not my decision.
I really hope people understand where we as admins are coming from, we really take no enjoyment out of banning anyone (except for spammers).
Hey, I’m the one that decided to ban this user. I understand the frustration, but it is very much in the TOS of lemmy.world and has been for a long time.
We are having an internal discussion to see if there’s room to lower the age to 16 and if we can make exceptions for federated users.
I hope you see that this really isn’t meant as a powertrip, and we are just trying to protect the Lemmy.world site.
Sorry if I do not respond to comments quickly, it’s late in my timezone.
I really like how voyager does the onboarding, maybe we should promote going trough that.
As someone new here, what do you think would have really helped you without changing the fundamental principles of the fediverse? Like a website with clear information, or something else?
Argentina, Brazil, Germany to an extent, France is flirting with it, Italy, the Netherlands (my country) is fucking around and finding out, Hungary has been at it since before it was cool, Indonesia elected a literal was criminal. And that’s all the cases I know about.
It’s obviously pretty stupid, but we shouldn’t act like the Americans are especially dumb, this is happening all over the globe.
People see: “economy is bad” so people vote out whoever is in power and vote in whoever screams the loudest that they have a magical fix. I would be shocked if the average trump, AFD etc. voter spends more then 15 minutes researching their vote (outside the endless stream of political content on yt and tiktok).
Okay, and if I find the book on the street?
So, if I go to a library, pick a book and start reading it, I am then free to completely copy it because I didn’t agree to any licensing?
In the inventory managment system I compared it with the chocolate bars around it, it outsold all but 1.
Wouldn’t laugh to much, the guy has retail space in my local retailer and as an employee I can tell you it sells reasonably well. I live in the netherlands btw. I think that guy sells millions worth of that crap.
Yea, I mostly meant selling your data to advertisers, but in the case of big companies the ad platform is ofcourse internal.
Ads and selling your personal data. In twitter’s case elon musk also uses it to influence politics and amplify his own opinion.
Some also have subscriptions.
Really enjoy the rest is history.
Having the app being the thing that makes something useful is a red flag. If the app/company dies your gadget is e-waste.
