That’s a con and a pro of decentralized net: if you don’t like the owner, pick another instance or create your own and be the king. Bad news is, every instance is controlled by couple regular folks who’re not responsible financially so they can imply their own rules and post and ban whatever they want.

As per their ceo, they want to provide access to education to all (which is good since educated people are less likely to believe propaganda) and they do not monetize the app in that country in any way, which means no taxes going to putins pocket.

People are quick to jump to conclusions but they’re right here.

They do not have any profit in « that market » because app is demonetized in Russia and Belorussia though

I think that asking to be paid for your work is totally fine (albeit I myself made my lemmy app completely free and opensource, simply because its just my hobby project), but its a rather different story when you provide app for open source, nonprofit venture-free platform and start to inject ads and trackers into it. Its goes against the entire idea of free decentralised platform and makes it closer to profit-focused app like reddit/threads/etc imo

Retirement age was raised to 64 here, but they also added new regulations and kind off point system where unless you were working since 18 you have to retire much later (around 68), but this protest is kind off died over months ago to be honest.

And now protests are: 2 police man killed 17 y.o who happened to be brown and Muslim because they first threatened him and he refused to comply, then tried to speed off away, almost hitting a pedestrian on his way. Policeman guys happened to have right wing associated tattoos as well, and even though the killed boy was someone with many criminal offences, shooting at him was not justified.
