With LG on the horizon, I figured this would be a good week to use some samples, both old and new. Amber Bomba seems to be a hit around these parts so I figured I would grab a sample while making some LG acquisitions. Daaaaaammmmnnn, this scent is just spicy and delicious. This is also the kind of scent that could be a daily driver in the fall and winter for me (if my den didn’t have so many other tubs distracting me on a daily basis). The Bay Rum paired very nicely with it so I have lovely scents in my nostrils right now.

War of the Roses

I recently mailed out a couple of smooshes of this soap to LG participants and decided to reacquaint myself with it this morning. Rose is not my go-to scent by any stretch of the imagination but for some reason, I really enjoy the scent of this soap. It’s not a cloying scent and it doesn’t have a sweetness that swings the scent toward grandma’s favorite perfume (not to be confused with the scent of Grandma’s pocketbook that Tabac is reminiscent of). Adding the rose-iness of Ocean Grove on top just adds to the goodness of soap’s scent. Performance-wise, this soap totally works for me. If I had to endure a ‘punishment’ similar to what u/EldrormR is going through by only using an MDC brain bowl, I have no doubt I could ‘suffer’ through it.

I gave Fu Dao another go this morning and I’m still confounded by this scent. Maybe it’s my pedestrian nose or maybe it’s the fact that I only have a sample, but I have no clue as to what I’m smelling beyond the firecracker. I don’t get any of the brighter notes out of this soap that it allegedly has. My brain doesn’t want to spend that much time parsing scents while shaving. Thankfully Ocean Grove doesn’t give me too much to think about ("Oooohhh, I smell like the ragosa rose bushes all over my house that’s three blocks from the ocean!).

It’s been awhile since I’ve used Tundra Artica and it performed as expected. Decided to break into the SV splash samples that I have and use the matching splash. I was surprised as to how mild the scent was. I was expecting it to be a bit overpowering, but it settled in nicely. I smell good without having a vapor trail behind me.

It was great breaking into the king size bottle of the splash this morning, which was purchased right before the wife decided to tell me that she hates this scent. Oh well, such is life.

Mother Nature is doing her damndest to not flip the switch to summer here in Maine, so I figured it was time to blow the dust off the scent that makes winter more tolerable. Ahh, how I have missed Hygge. It’s just so damn good. I’m hitting the sweet spot on this blade with the Flying Wing and the extra attention to the blade angle gave me a lovely BBS shave to start the work week off.

I’ve been using Proraso for a long time but this might have been the best lather I have ever gotten from the soap. I think I’m going to have to attribute it to the power of MOAR F’N BOAR.

I didn’t intend to use the Stirling Lime today, but this morning my wife asked me if I could whip up a lather for her to shave her legs. How could I say no to that request? She doesn’t love most heavily scented soaps so Lime it was, which is always acceptable to me as well. Of note, she doesn’t have any blades for her shitty Venus razor, so it will be another attempt to convert her to a Schick injector. The DEs scare her.

I took my time with the Flying Wing this morning, paying attention to riding the cap closely. Hell, the razor head even has a bullseye etched into it to remind you to ride the cap. Following the razor’s advice, I got a spectacular shave. SBS’s base is super slick and takes little effort to get it there and this GEM enjoyed slicing through it. No feedback from the splash to boot.

One day closer to the end of the week, thankfully, but my work calendar looks friggin’ ugly. Gonna need a bigger coffee cup, clearly. Have a great day all!

First time using a SBS soap and it did not disappoint. Prom King is a great scent and one that I could probably use as a daily driver. MOAR BOAR did a fine job of getting the soap up to a great lather and I always appreciate when there’s almost no feedback from a splash.
