I’m not the person you are replying to but I do have one answer.
The Library of Congress should be tasked with maintaining a searchable index of Internet and World Wide Web sites. No ranking. Your skill at finding sites would be related to your skill with writing search queries
If you recall Altavista from the late 90s, I am thinking of something like that
Dark Crystal vibes.
Thank you so much for this information.
If you still have commenting motivation, what are the top 5 differences between x86 and ARM?
Up until your post I had thought it exactly was the size of the instruction set with x86 having lots of very specific multi-step-in-a-single instruction as well as crufty instruction for backwards compatibility (like MPSADBW).
JFC, I’m old, and this new use of the word throws me for a loop because everyone writes like I’m supposed to already know what it means .
This will always be my RCS: https://www.gnu.org/software/rcs/
Just think. In Article 1 of the US Constitution, the same article that creates Congress, also creates a federal post office system. Remote communication was so important that’s where it was described using the latest technology of the time.
There are so many systems today that need similar treatment. Internet. Medical. Education. Job Training.
And no, I don’t mean fed government enforced monopoly. I mean, UPS exists and competes with the USPS. But there is a minimum level of service in operation.
Like in Pictionary or Apples to Apples?
Ouch! Ma neck!
Yes to everything you just said.
I have one counter example against proportional representation vs districts that worries me. Harvey Milk won his city supervisor post after San Francisco moved from proportional to district. This was because a lot of gay people lived in his neighborhood. I don’t think he would have won in a proportional election. Will similar minorities now be oppressed by the majority if we move to proportional?
Get involved at the state level to implement ranked choice voting. It is the first and most important political change.
I feel like you’re taking a shot at Fun Boy Three.
Since no one mentioned this yet…
Take a coin with a head on it. Put the grove over the raised face with groove side up. Press both ends of the pill down with thumbs. It breaks the pill along the groove.
That’s what kills me. This guy who is smart in other ways is so naive as to think HR is some kind of ally to employees and that illegal contracts are enforceable.
In 98, I worked at a small company. In 2003, I worked at a big company at a different city a few states away. I happened to be have a good view of people walking by from the parking lot to the front door from my desk. I recognized a coworker from 98 walk by. I ran out to say hi to make sure it was her. It was.
Other than both businesses being in the same broad category of software development, they had no other relation. And this was the one time she was walking by. It’s not like she was working there like I was. And I came by that job from a totally different path that had nothing to do with our old company. And she was not with that old company either and came to be where she was by another unique and totally circuitous route as I had.
I don’t know what the odds were of that chance meeting but it had to be less than 1 in a million. I mean, that one time she walked by I could have been in the bathroom or at lunch even.
Yeah, I’m picturing 500 headless window processes that – if you connected to them with a display – would show a different game screen variation of “press any key to start “.
Hey, I remember this website from back in the day. They still around or is this old?
Like every arcade game as a kid: Defender, Xevious, Galaga, Berzerk, Battle Zone, Asteroids, the Dark Knight pinball machine. My 10 year old self had no idea these games were supposed to be infinite/unbeatable. Or rather, I always assumed they were. I had no clue they could crash if you were super expert at them. I think Xevious actually had an end tho.
As for arcade games a casual could finish but I gave up on? A decade later, Virtua Fighter.
The instructions also list an FTC form for you to use.
Same, but a year ago.
Also, Temu has tried to take all the shopping search results from Bing/DDG. So those results are trash now.
