    ䷀ General Notes

Today’s shave is sponsored by Greg’s Face Lather Co. I try a face lathering method /u/gcgallant told me about.

    ䷀ Razor and Blade Notes

    (Timeless - Stainless Steel .68 - Open Comb ::: Gillette - Nacet - M ‹511 uses›)

Same: First pass has some tugginess to it. But no irritation that lasts longer than a little tuggy stroke. Latter passes feel fine and give a reasonably close shave. 4 pretty quick passes.

Razor and Blade Performance/Comfort Rating: 2 out of 5 (Okay)

    ䷀ Soap Notes

(Chiseled Face - Midnight Stag - White Label)

I just love all the aspects of this scent!

Scent Strength: 6/10, nicely present during shaving.

Lather… Today’s lather was inspired by Greg. He mentioned his method and I tried it today, as best as I could. I did overload, and it affected a few iportant things about the shave, so don’t hold that against him.

Relatively short load with just a damp brush.

Use froth from puck to work into your face, adding water to make it really slick.

Work thick lather on face with brush, adding water by tip-dipping from a cup/sink. Paint in water at the end.

    What I liked about it:

    • It started your face off with a really slick kind of preshave.

    • It didn’t overload soap (though I inadvertently did this time, not knowing that 7 seconds on my soap would pick up so much)

    • It lets you keep some raw materials separate in the knot, for use in latter passes. This prevents good stuff from being easily wasted.

This lather was a bit slower at times, than my slurry lather, but this is a bit more complex, and will take more work/experience to tweak it to your preferences.

    Hydration: Perfect (for me)

    • 7 sec load with a Damp brush
    • = 14 passes of lather

    Bowl: No Bowl

    ䷀ Brush Notes

    (Zenith - r/wetshaving MOAR BOAR B35/508A XL ‹36 uses›)

Same: Comfortable soft tips that do flex some, but that are supported by a base with strong backbone. As with all young boars, I look forward to the tips splitting with more uses and getting softer with use. I am generally using a hair dryer to gently treat the tips and age them just a bit faster than normal.

During this use, though, the work done when the lather was in a more concentrated form made the brush splay and feel softer than it actually is. It was quite luxurious, though a bit drying.

    During the Shave Feel:
      Cheeks: Felt blade but comfortable
      Neck: Felt blade but comfortable
    After the Shave Closeness:
      Cheeks: Close Shave
Neck: Several hairs are showing some tip length (still a pretty good shave)
