  • Den tour day 13 maybe

    Same gear.

Soap- Stirling varen. Now this is a deep and funky fougere. I like fougere but there’s a tiny bit of burn from the oakmoss.

    Rankings worst to best

panta rei gattopardo - poor performance and a bit of burn caties bubbles le marche du rasage - nice scent but it burns bodyshop maca root and aloe - good for a brick and mortar shop signature capra - good performance but who likes unscented mitchells woolfat - see above. Also about to leave my den to cross the pond elysium pineapple ambrosia - scent dry down is a bit odd

From here on the scents are all good.

wickham gothic revival - decent scent but not my favourite soap grooming dept mallard corretto - like a black forest gateaux but too sweet for me wickham ninfeo di egeria - light and bright. This one has grown on me and id be tempted to do a tub kill to really get to know it. Soap performance lets it down Stirling varen - great scent but a bit of burn signature brittania - simple but effective Mammoth smash - touch too sweet for me but I love it MdC fougere - great soap and scent barrister and mann sandalwood - top tier scent and soap

  • Same gear.

    Soap: signature soaps Britannia

Mint and aniseed scented soap from UK’s best.

Really nice with a little menthol kick. Mid tier and Gabe myself a nick but as I’m now 12 or 23 shaves onto the den tour I expect blade is going to start fixing a bit of grief.

Got as far as getting the scrubty-four out of storage to send to DJ. Baby steps

  • Shave tour day 9

    Same gear

Bodyshop aloe and maca root shave cream

Probably the best ‘drugstorre’ product. It gives a decent shave probably because it’s a cream and so easy for numptys to load. Properly.

  • Den tour 8

    Same gear

    Panta rei - gattapardo.

I thought this was an Italian artisan but it says made in France. It’s a fruity scent and a soap with a weird texture that lathers ok eventually once you’ve worked in enough water. Bit of irritation probably from the cinnamon.

Got it from a secret Santa and definitely not one of my faves

  • Same gear and recording two shaves here because I couldn’t be arsed during the week

    1. Soft heart sandalwood. Proof that a single note can resonate more powerfully than a chord. And possibly my favourite base. Not tons left so it’s a good option for the next tub kill. I may keep a sample if I do go for the kill.

    2. Gothic revival.

Second soap from Wickham a limited edition dupe of eucris I think. Good shave and a nice posh barbershop scent to my mind.

  • Shave den tour day 5

    Same gear

    Grooming dept : mallard correto

Now here’s an artisan that @djundjila has called Sus. And to be fair the stories of poor quality control and taking money before soaps are made are fair criticism. But on the other hand if you get a good soap then it’s pretty damn good stuff. Great lather and a scent like a Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte. Tasty and one the kids often pick if I give them the chance to choose.

  • Den tour 4

    MdC fougere.

A secret Santa soap that definitely isn’t one that is on my kill list because it’s a momster and I don’t believe I be have the patience. It’s a beautiful scent, a darker green fougere, with some brightness but a smoky undetone. As a shaving soap MdC is a great performer at slickness. Post shave feel lacks compared to some of the modern artisans but no one is as slick in my book.

    Unscientific rank

    1. MdC fougere
    2. Wickham ninfeo di eregia
    3. Signature a Capra
    4. Caties le marche du rasage

  • Den tour part 3

    Signature soaps a Capra unscented

Can’t believe I did a June to end of August run with this soap back in 22 as an unscented lather games to AA self challenge.

Unscented soaps suck, but the performance is good. By far the best UK artisan in my book. Also looking how little is left it’s probably going to be my next kill attempt.

    Unscientific den ranking so far

    1. Wickham ninfeo di Egeria
    2. Signature a Capra
    3. Caties bubbles le marche du rasage

  • Den tour shave 2

    Same gear bar soap.

Caries bubbles - la marche du rasage Aquatic fougere is probably how I’d see this soup. It has a green base with a very watery top. It’s the only caties I own and is a little sample jar that I got early in my r/ days from kammander Kim in a pif or Christmas secret Santa. It gives me a bit of irritation which I always thought was the oakmoss but then varen doesn’t so it must be one of the other notes.
