    Ninth Day of TabOKtoberfest

    • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts Tabak Oridjinal
    • Razor: Dovo 41 Inox
    • Lather: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original
    • Post Shave: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original
    • Fragrance: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original

I had bought this Dovo after the 2022 Lather Games to finish the next hardware scavenger hunt in optimal time (Getting both the #STAINLESS and #OLDTIMER tag at once was part of my most unusual yet fastest path) but I later became part of the committee that changed the rules and made the razor obsolete 🤦‍♂️. Then I sorta forgot about it, but now that i found it again I was hoping it would make for a good travel straight: inexpensive (no drama if lost), replaceable (as in obtainium), stainless (can be packed damp in a pinch).

I honed it two days ago, guided by the newly adopted polystyrene quality assurance procedure PQuAP (video of the PQuAP applied to a different razor), and the bead does not lie: this razor took a great, smooth edge. The stainless steel scales are quite heavy compared to the 5/8" blade, giving the blade an unusual balance, not unlike the Weck Sextoblade Med Prep with the chromed scales.

I’ve found myself an nice little travel razor, it seems 😊.

On a side note, many straight shavers whose opinion I value and who have more experience than I consider modern Dovo razors as low quality razors. Either I got lucky with my two Dovos (this one and my Bismarck), or I don’t have the experience yet (347 open blade shaves, and counting), to really distinguish good quality from whatever this is.

    Smooth, very close shave, Stank++;

      347 open blade shaves

I’m at 348. After reaching 100 shaves, I continue to count but have no idea why.

Hope djunior had a great third birthday, btw.

I continue to count but have no idea why.

I like (ac)counting in my hobbies. Gives me a sense of control and order that I miss when I stumble over 15 toy cars trying to find that one missing toy that Djunior’s been asking for for the last hour 😂

Djunior’s party was great, thanks for asking! He’s in a construction equipment phase, and he got a concrete mixer truck, a bulldozer, and an excavator, so he’s in heaven

In my experience, most engineers, regardless of specialization, never leave that phase :)

    • Brush: Maggard 24mm 2 Band Badger
    • Razor: Blackland Era - Level 3 SB
    • Blade: V12 Super Platinum (2)
    • Lather: RazoRock - Puros - Soap
    • Post Shave: Pinaud Clubman Eau de Quinine Hair Tonic

Dang, this shave stunk! Tons of razor burn in one area. I had to get out the styptic. Weird.

Probably a very smooth blade in a mild razor giving me that classic false sense of security, followed by too much pressure and/or buffing.

Ah yes, definitely been there. A lot of my bad shaves these days are often due to overconfidence and/or false sense of security.

Bummed out about my lack of success in honing, and also under pressure timewise, I grabbed a trusty DE, and got done with the hair in no time. No fuss, and very good skin feel.

    Have a good evening!

Don’t get too bummed out. Once you’ve figured out what went wrong (and you will soon, there aren’t too many variables to try) it’ll be very satisfying 👍

I really don’t know what went wrong; probably I just don’t know how and when to stop and move on. But somehow, it worked. Yay, I guess 🤷‍♂️

    • Prep: hot shower
    • Brush: Omega 0146138 HI-BRUSH, 25mm Synthetic Shaving Brush
    • Razor: Gillette Aristocrat (1948-50)
    • Blade: Lord Super Chrome (3)
    • Lather: Barrister & Mann - Leviathan -Shaving Soap (Omnibus base)
    • Post Shave: Barrister & Mann - Leviathan - Aftershave Balm

Another Monday, another day where I haven’t shaved in three days (since Friday). Today was particularly satisfying. Plus, it’s finally feeling cool enough outside where I can start using Leviathan again.

    • Brush: Brad Sears Scotsman XL 28mm Super Badger
    • Razor: Gillette Super Adjustable 109 (Black Beauty) Gold O-4 (setting: 5)
    • Blade: My-Blades (2)
    • Lather: Elysian Soap Shop - Olympus - Soap
    • Post Shave: Elysian Soap Shop - Olympus - Aftershave
    • Post Shave: Thayers - Rose - Toner
    • Fragrance: Elysian Soap Shop - Olympus - Eau de Parfum

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

Day two of My-Blades and Olympus. Both provided me with a smooth, comfortable shave. Although on the mild side of medium by American scent strength standards, I’m not bothered by the scent strength of the Olympus soap. Having the aftershave and EdP is definitely a big plus for longer term enjoyment.
