    Superior Ford

    • Brush: Zenith 506U N (50/50 horse mane/tail)
    • Razor: Dovo Bismarck 2 (7/8″, full hollow, carbon steel)
    • Lather: Wholly Kaw La Supérieure Dulci Tobacco
    • Aftershave: Stirling Soap Company Haverford
    • Fragrance: Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille

Fully indulging my tobacco sweet tooth with this one again, but this time without yesterday evening’s smokey distraction. I don’t care for the WK shaving cream base, mostly because of its lacklustre performance (IMO, MOIMO, YMMV, YKMV, etc), but the Dulci Tobacco scent is right up my alley, and Haverford and its original have a religious following in Casa Djundjila (except for my wife, who’s kinda over it and Djunior who doesn’t care).

The Bismarck keeps sparking joy. It stays.

I learned a lot from the Bismarck. To summarize most of what I said in my sharpening video, I think that the razor apex does not fare well on impact with embedded abrasive particles in whetstones, but is formed more cleanly when abrasive slurry is used as a cushion, and when torque towards the apex is kept light when using leading edge strokes. I came to this conclusion after successfully honing my Bismarck on softer synthetic stones (6K Suehiro Cerax, 8K Naniwa Snow White, 12K Naniwa Superstone) using primarily trailing edge strokes.
