I have not used this soap since the July Lather Games. It felt a little on the dry side so I bloomed it, then lathered as I normally would. Great result.
For quite a while now, I have felt that shaves with a straight razor leave my skin feeling better then shaves with a blade that is ground by an automated process (DEs, SEs, GEMs). I don’t know if it is a difference in edge condition or whether it relates to the additional freedom I have in controlling blade angle when using a straight. I don’t feel much difference when applying an alcohol splash (don’t use alum), nonetheless, my skin feels less raw when I use a straight razor.
My anecdotal evidence in support of your theory: my skin has been fine for all of BBS November, except on the second day of the the AutoStrop, when I started feeling like using moisturizer. After switching back to straights (the Thiers Issard), I dropped it again

- Razor: Thiers Issard Le Dandy
- Lather: Barrister and Mann Atomic Holiday
- Aftershave: Stirling Soap Co Orange Chill

In a futile act of defiance, I chose one of the most summery combinations my den allows for. Now we’re off to the Christmas market to find a pony for djunior to ride.

I’ve never tried Creed’s Silver Mountain Water, but I always enjoy Stirling’s dupe of it. This marked the tenth use of the Thiers Issard in a row, and the seventeenth since the last time it saw a hone, and I’m thinking it could use a little edge refresh. Not the best longevity. Or maybe I was just a bit off this evening. Either way, the razor goes on the to-hone pile and I’m switching to another tomorrow.
I’ve tried SMW and liked it a lot, but it is light and I go nose blind to it quickly. I like getting wafts of fragrance during the day.
As for edge refreshing, why not? Because you can do it yourself you can afford to be quite picky about having the best edges on all of your razors.
Yes, you’re right, and this blade will be shipshape next time it touches my face 🙂

- Brush: Summer Break Soaps w/Maggard 28mm Silvertip Badger
- Razor: Gillette Tech (Z-4)
- Blade: Bolzano Superinox (German) (3)
- Lather: Barrister & Mann - Vespers - Soap
- Post Shave: Noble Otter - The Night Before - Aftershave
- Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Mood Indigo - Balm
A nice Xmas themed shave, although if you ask @gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social, Vespers is a year round scent… and I agree! It’s fantastic, and I want the frag of it.
Noble Otter aftershave and HoM balm are both very very full of skin food. In order to avoid overdoing it and getting my skin tacky/sticky, I wiped off the excess with a towel after applying. Now that it’s a few hours later, I’d say that technique worked. Skin is feeling good on this cold day.

- Prep: warm water
- Razor: RazoRock GC 0.84 OC
- Blade: Voskhod
- Brush: TGS Galaxy 26 mm
- Lather: Speick - shaving cream
- Post Shave: Thayer’s Aloe Vera toner, Alterra moisturizer
1 pass head and face shave. Lavender scents have calming properties, or so I’ve heard. And being calm is something I desperately need atm.
I’ll hand in my resignation letter tomorrow. I’ve had enough with my current nursing home… Just hope the new place will call ASAP about an appointment for signing my new contract.
Have a nice Sunday evening/night and a good start into Monday!

- Brush: Wild West Brushworks Deep Pearl 26mm Sweet Spot Badger
- Razor: Blackland Razors Blackbird Ti
- Blade: Gillette Nacet (3)
- Lather: Ethos Grooming Essentials - Succès - Soap
- Post Shave: Ethos Grooming Essentials - Succès Skin Food - Splash
- Post Shave: Thayers - Cucumber - Toner
Ethos seems to do their own thing. A pretty expensive soap relative to the competition and you can make a good case that their products don’t provide good value. But I like their soaps. The post-shave for Ethos feels unique. The likelihood is that it is a just a nice tweak of well-known ingredients. I don’t know, but I appreciate the effort. The scent of Succès leans towards Creed Aventus but has a sharper more pineapple feel to it. I like it a lot.
The Blackbird is generally regarded as aggressive, but I very much like all the blade feel and can manage it to get very comfortable shaves. So, once again, a very nice evening shave.
