    • Brush: WSP Stubby 26mm Extra Dense HMW

    • Razor: River Razor 14 8/8" Full Hollow (Straight Shave 376)

    • Lather: Eufros - Vetiver de Haiti - Soap

    • Fragrance: Hermès - Terre D’Hermès Eau Intense Vetiver - EdP

A glorious morning shave. I had time, so I took it. I love the feel of this razor. Feathery soft, yet efficient. Despite the outlandish scales, it is a real performer!

And, Vetiver de Haiti just made my day. Thank you to u/VisceralWatch for introducing me to this! (And to Rosa Oud.)

Today’s shave was so barbershop-like I finished it with some talc. I’ve been using talc when I have time, and when I have exceptional shaves. I find that I’m using it more frequently so I will probably add it to my database.

mhm, I’m intrigued. What do you get from the use of talc?

Technically, talc absorbs moisture. I think barbers use it more as a “finish”. After a very close shave, the skin can be shiny. A thin invisible layer of talc adds a velvety feel to BBS and removes the shine. [ A while back, Amazon decided I should buy some talc, so I did :) ] I use a tiny travel brush to apply the talc.

There’s some ridicule that may accompany talc. When used properly, others can’t see it, however, my wife pointed out that it is akin to baby powder. She is amused that, having dealt with all the diaper changing of twin babies [yes, I have changed a lot of diapers], I’m willing to use “baby powder” again.

I’m also the designated diaper changer of the family, but baby powder isn’t a thing (anymore?) here. Not sure whether it’s more cultural or a result of the asbestos-in-baby-powder scandals, but pediatricians warn against it.

the asbestos-in-baby-powder scandals, but pediatricians warn against it.

Interesting how these things emerge. The FDA (American - so there might be trust issues) tested baby powder products multiple times and found no asbestos IIRC. When our kids were in diapers the big concern was zillions of disposable diapers in landfills. Of course that was more than 30 years ago and the half-life of a disposable diaper is about 500 years. [ I’m making that up. Don’t really know how long it takes for diaper to degrade. ]

Not anymore in 2021 and 2022. But Johnson & Johnson paid billions in damages for cancer victims who were exposed to asbestos in their baby powder.

    Citrus and Tea

    • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts Papa Eld with Declaration Grooming B3 knot
    • Razor: Böker S.S. Paris Wins
    • Lather: Barrister and Mann 42
    • Aftershave: Ariana & Evans l’Orange Verte

42 is a scent I keep underestimating. I think it may be because the concept feels a bit gimmicky. Either way, yet another great 42 shave. Thanks for all the fish.

I used Cheshire and 42 on the fourth of the month. I love Cheshire (and Earl Grey) and continue to forget how great 42 is.

Oh yes, it’s a very nice razor. And, on a completely tangent note, with the new scales, I added some brass washers, and the blade now rotates so smoothly that it’s a pleasure just opening and closing the thing😅

    Laundry

    • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts Papa Eld with Declaration Grooming B3 knot
    • Razor: Böker S.S. Paris Wins
    • Lather: Schmiere Abschaum
    • Aftershave: Schmiere 1959

Abschaum is a pure laundry scent, perfect for laundry day (and also just super pleasant regardless). The splash is a spicy scent.

Great morning shave gain with this little Böker. I’m really glad I replaced the broken scale and it’s back in rotation.

November 12, 2023: Ultimate Luxury Shave

My first try with the Koraat. First impression: this thing is yooge. It is also heavier than my other straights (even though I believe it’s lighter than djundjila’s piggy. It was a very comfortable shave, but I will need some time getting used to the size of the blade. Some minor weepers, and also a slightly irritated face (but this might also be caused by the fact that the lords of our building - after having us freeze for some time - decided that only well-cooked renters are good renters: 27 degrees Celsius!).

    Narcisse++

    Have a good evening!

Beautiful razor(!) and congrats on your first use. I’ll be interested to hear your impression of your smaller razors once you are comfortable with the size and performance of the 14-2.0. :)

    SOTD 12.11.2023

    • Prep: warm water
    • Razor: Stando Perun
    • Blade: Voskhod
    • Brush: vintage yellow bakelite w/ 22 mm AP Shave Co. SynBad
    • Lather: Southern Witchcrafts - Boonana
    • Post Shave: Southern Witchcrafts - Boonana AS

The cold is on its way out and my sense of smell has slowly returned. Time for a scented 2-pass face shave…

Unfortunately, today’s software is a bittersweet affair for me. I actually gave it away with tons of other stuff to help a fellow german who participated in the Lather Games this year. Despite me mentioning over 3 times that he can keep everything I sent him, he sent everything back a few days ago - without informing me. Including half used AS samples that I threw away immediately. Oh, and I had to clean the top layer of the Boonana soap since apparently rinsing soaps wasn’t his thing either! I’m really pissed about the situation in case it isn’t obvious…

However, Boonana is actually not as bad as I remembered. I still know how hyped I was for the release, everyone on Reddit having praised it… And to me, it was just a weak attempt at Samhain but with banana peel instead of pumpkin. However, on its own it isn’t a bad scent. Quite the contrary - it’s rare to see SW go in a gourmand direction. It’s actually a pretty wearable scent, just not the hype beast everyone made it out to be.

Enough of my ramblings - hope everyone’s Sunday was nice ✌🏻
